I’m 31 and recently my periods have gone from a few heavy days to lighter for up to 7 days total to two heavy days then a bit of spotting and that’s it. Can periods just change like this? X

That does sound unusual. Can you call your GP?

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 14/09/2020 07:10

I will call my GP but with Covid its tricky to Get to speak or see an actual GP x

My periods changed in my 30s. Went from 2 days heavy and 3 days light to two days light spotting (so light I rarely see red blood). I had it all checked out and had scans of my uterus to check the lining. All confirmed normal and it hasn’t had an impact on my fertility or anything. Best to get it checked out though just in case.

Rubbleonthedouble1 · 14/09/2020 07:16

Do you mind if I ask what they were checking for in uterus? X

I’m panicking (can you tell?)

Your periods change as you age.

wannabebump · 14/09/2020 07:18

@Rubbleonthedouble1 my periods changed as I went into my thirties, best to double check though for peace of mind. Give the doctors a call, they'll probably triage over the phone and get you a referral for gynaecology

Snorlax86 · 14/09/2020 07:30

Mine have changed over the years and when I spoke to my GP she said it was normal to have periods in your life/as you age when your cycle changes. It’s still worth speaking to your GP for peace of mind. Be warned if your surgery is anything like mine, getting a referral is like getting blood out of a stone!

Same here. Happened half way 30s for me. 2 days bleeding. 5 days spotting.
😑

Did you find any cause for it? X

Mine have always changed. I'm baffled by people who say they were exactly the same for 30 years and then get freaked out by and extremely attentive to any change.

LeslieYep · 14/09/2020 08:25

Mine change depending on my diet. Painless, quite heavy and done in 3 days when I'm not eating too many carbs.
Painful, heavy and 5+ days when I eat loads of them.
This is as a general eating pattern across weeks though.

They were checking the thickness of the lining of my uterus. I was worried the extremely light periods would stop me from getting pregnant (I only need to wear liners for a couple of days!) They had a look and said it was the thickness was the lower end of the scale, but within the norm, so should affect me sustaining a pregnancy (currently heavily pregnant now!). They also checked that nothing was blocking the blood from coming out. The dr just explained that periods really vary from woman to woman, and my “normal” just happens to be very light and that often your normal can change throughout life.
Turtleturtle81 · 14/09/2020 08:36

*shouldn't affect me sustaining a pregnancy

Pinkmakeupbag · 14/09/2020 08:40

Mine changed in my 30s after having my second child.

Went from a few heavy days to 7 or more dragged out days of spotting. Really weird.

I went to the GP at the time, had bloods taken, everything normal.

SadSack39 · 14/09/2020 08:58

Mine have changed all the time over the years i put it down to lots of things weight changes, stress, etc

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 14/09/2020 19:28

Mine changed in my mid 30s - GP didn't seem concerned (went as I was trying to conceive at that point)

FlamingoorPigeon · 14/09/2020 19:39

Mine changed in my early thirties and are now all over the place at nearly 40.
GP sent me for a scan,to rule out anything sinister. all was well, GP said it can be normal for periods to start to change in 30s, I'm hoping mine will stop soon, my Mum's stopped at 46.

Someonesayroadtrip · 14/09/2020 19:46

There are lots of reasons for changes, are you on birth control for example? But I have learnt changes should be reported. GPs are open, our has a text service which makes is super easy.

I had changes around 18-2 years ago, thought it was weird but didn't think much of it, but they have continued to get odd and I have an arrange of different weird things going on and being revered now under the 2 week wait, which I haven't seen anyone yet despite it being 2 weeks now. My point is, it's probably nothing but don't put it off and be in my position.

It's likely hormone related but I wish someone had told me to get checked out 18 months ago.
