I already know I'm not but posting for traffic.

My ex has taken my kids out during his weekend and due to there being more than 5 people has thought it is reasonable to put my daughter in the boot of his car for the journey. This had happened previously and we spoke about it and he said it wouldn't happen again.

This time he has also told the DC that if they tell me he will fall out with them. There is no reason for him to do this in any circumstances as they have two cars.

Talking to him clearly doesn't work and the kids are scared of how he will treat them if he knows I know. I'm so worried about them. How do I get through to him?

Report him.

Bluntness100 · 13/09/2020 19:55

What do you mean the boot of his car? Like a boot on a saloon car and laying down and shut in?

FippertyGibbett · 13/09/2020 19:55

This is absolutely disgraceful. He wouldn’t be having the kids again.

LouiseTrees · 13/09/2020 19:56

Do your DC have a phone? If he ever attempts it again can they take a picture or video and send it to the police/social work . Definitely report.

LagunaBubbles · 13/09/2020 19:58

I wouldnt be letting him take them again, he's putting them at risk.

Is this a joke? A sick one? You mean a regular boot?

winterchills · 13/09/2020 20:00

This is something my kids dad would do. I would be fuming it's just so careless and selfish!

dollypartonscoat · 13/09/2020 20:04

Sorry what? He puts your child in the boot like a kidnap victim?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 13/09/2020 20:06

Hatchback, right?

[AUTO]d3jqakcn9qlt2 · 13/09/2020 20:07

Call the police.

sunset900 · 13/09/2020 20:07

Sorry, should have been clearer, it's a 4x4 so sat up but no seat / seatbelt

OP posts:
RunningFromInsanity · 13/09/2020 20:08

I’m assuming it’s like a Range Rover type so the boot is open to the car?

RandomMess · 13/09/2020 20:08

Report him to the police.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/09/2020 20:09

No seatbelt is completely unacceptable.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 13/09/2020 20:15

I assume a hatchback with the lid off? Not that that makes it better.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 13/09/2020 20:17

I would report to the police, but I can see why you are worried about how he will treat them.

Surely if you’re going to break the law and have someone without a belt then you’d put one of the adults in the boot, not a child?

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 13/09/2020 20:17

Not advocating putting anyone in the boot or breaking any laws, I just find it extra weird that this is his thinking.

RB68 · 13/09/2020 20:39

It is completely illegal they need to be in appropriate car seats - he is endangering them

RubyAberdeen · 13/09/2020 20:43

Aw we used to sit in the boot of my friend’s mum’s estate car. It was so fun (this was in the 90s though).

I’d raise holy hell if someone let my kids do it now though.

sunset900 · 13/09/2020 21:47

Just found out that apparently they do have to lie down in case someone can see them. Just don't understand how his mind works. Would the police even be able to do anything after the event?

OP posts:
MaryShelley1818 · 13/09/2020 22:03

My children would not be going again, there is no way I'd risk their lives, he could take me to court.

Perfect28 · 13/09/2020 22:09

I would also train your child to refuse to get in the car if this happened again.

Freddiefox · 13/09/2020 22:11

My children wouldn’t go there again, he could take me to court.

KeepingPlain · 13/09/2020 22:14

Report him to the police and go to court to ensure he doesn't have them again.

imissthesouth · 18/09/2020 17:32

did you phone the police OP? I'd be very concerned that this is is child abuse. In a crash she would be seriously injured or even killed, possibly injuring others in the front of the car as she would essentially turn into a projectile and be thrown about the car. Don't let him anywhere near her.
