To ask what age you consider a young adult to be

I personally consider up to age 30 a young adult. I would consider 65 plus an older adult. I’m in my 40’s I wonder if our own age affects what we define as young or old.

I assumed the age range creeps slightly lower than 18 to be honest. If you see the book genre “young adult” it covers things like Twilight and Harry Potter which clearly are not for actual adults

caughtalightsneeze · 13/09/2020 12:29

I'd think a young adult would be under the age of about 20. Young adult kind of implies that you're it quite participating in the adult world yet.

Bunnymumy · 13/09/2020 12:30

Hmm I'm 31 and think I would consider a young adult to be under 25s. Thinking on it though...maybe up to 26ish.

chickenortheegg · 13/09/2020 12:32

Young adults are teenagers up to 21/22 when they graduate uni imo

1990shopefulftm · 13/09/2020 12:33

I m 25, I d say maybe up to 20 but that's more from my personal experiences as I moved out and had full responsibility for everything myself at 18.

Pantheon · 13/09/2020 12:43

18-25, maybe 18-30

MiddlesexGirl · 13/09/2020 12:45

18-21ish.

Certainly no younger than 18 as that's no longer adult.

TeenPlusTwenties · 13/09/2020 12:45

18-25

RaininSummer · 13/09/2020 12:48

16 up to about 25 I think. Although mid 30s still sounds young to me.

WunWun · 13/09/2020 12:50

18-25

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 13/09/2020 12:51

18-25, maybe a tiny bit older

Love51 · 13/09/2020 12:51

18-24
That's the age funding for young adults finishes and provision for disabled children and young people.

CabernetSoWhat · 13/09/2020 12:51

18-21, I would say, the years between the current and historic age of majority.

Norabird · 13/09/2020 12:54

I'd say 16 - 25.

The brain doesn't reach full maturity until 25 so even though many people under that age are functioning as adults, living independently etc (as was I), they would still be young adults.

seayork2020 · 13/09/2020 12:56

18 - 20 maybe 21

Yoloyohol · 13/09/2020 12:56

18 to 21. The current idea of infantalising 22 to 30 yr old's is worrying. Many men are loosing their hair by 30 and quite a few of both sexes are going to be Grandparents not that long after.

Powerlessstepmum · 13/09/2020 13:02

I'm late 40s. So a young adult is anyone up to 30, middle-aged is 48-67 (State Pension Age), elderly is late 70s onwards. I realise there are some gaps in there. The first one is just "adult"; the second gap is the newly retired, and I think I would define them as "getting old" because it varies so much. Some people are definitely elderly by then as their health is failing but other people are steaming on, still working, fit as fiddles etc.
Sorry, went on a bit there. I think you're right that it depends on your own age. In my twenties I would have labelled anyone in their 40s as middle aged, but now I'm here myself I'm struggling to accept that label! My parents are in their late 70s and refuse to think of themselves as old, let alone elderly.

Dandelionz · 13/09/2020 13:04

Young Adult: 18 - 29
Adult: 30 - 50
Older Adult - 50 - 65 ish
Senior - 65+

Im early 20s.

TheLastStarfighter · 13/09/2020 13:04

Depends entirely on the context, are we talking book genres, club 18-30 holidays, or Saga catalogues?Hmm

NameChange84 · 13/09/2020 13:06

18 - 25

I’m 36

Certainly didn’t feel like a “young” adult beyond 24 tbh.

ForestDad · 13/09/2020 13:07

16-22ish.

Florencex · 13/09/2020 13:10

18 - 22

butterry · 13/09/2020 13:11

I think of young adults as 18-21, university age though books which aimed at young adults I would say 16-18 years old.

HappyPotato · 13/09/2020 13:14

18-25, minimum wage is less under 25 so I guess I base it on that. Definitely would not consider 30 a young adult.

IsadoraQuagmire · 13/09/2020 13:20

16 - 18. Once you're 18 you're just an adult.
