To want to fit into smaller sized jeans

W989 · 13/09/2020 11:25

Since May, I decided to clean up my diet and start walking most places to stay active. Through intermittent fasting 16:8 most days, or 15:9 when I'm busier. I've gone from fitting into 32 waist jeans to 28. Which I am very happy with. I'm enjoying wearing clothes again. I love that I don't have to lie down or breathe in to get my jeans done up. DH was impressed and shocked when I managed to button up an old pair of Levi's 501 and some 7 for all mankind skinny jeans I last wore at least 2 years ago!!

I'm 5'8 and DH thinks I'm getting too thin now. I haven't weighed myself, I've only gone by clothes sizes as I find that weighing regular doesn't really help me. I have some smaller jeans in a 26 that I've kept from 3 years ago when I was at my lightest. DH said to stop at a 28 and just maintain. If they get tight then watch what I'm eating.

Is it worth trying to get to a 26?

@Taylrse yes i know strangers can't tell me. But it is nice to have an unbiased view from another person.

I'm 5'8 but quite straight up and down, and have fairly broad shoulders and even when I gain weight I don't really on my legs, so when I was a size 8 my face looked a little gaunt and my collar bone area was very boney. I feel at my best comfortably in a ten and look fine in a twelve. It does depend a lot on your natural body shape

W989 · 13/09/2020 18:10

@KarlKennedysDurianFruit yes it does. Do you feel too thin at a 8?

@W989 at the time I didn't initially, but after my dad and brother had both asked me if I was ill, I did question it at they're not the sort to notice let alone comment. Then we went on a two week holiday and I gained a few pounds and when I came back people were telling me how great I looked, and looking at photos I definitely looked too boney at an eight, so now I'm happy with a ten and fine if I teeter on a twelve. I've gained weight during pregnancy that I didn't miraculously lose during breast feeding so I'm bigger than that at the moment but I'm aiming for a ten

I tried on the 2 26 waist jeans this afternoon. Neither of the fit. I can get them on but it doesn't look good. Also theyre about 3-4 inches from buttoning. Maybe its a sign not to keep them.

One thing that might be going on is that people get used to you looking a certain way. If you then lose a noticeable amount of weight you will look gaunt compared with before, especially if before was enough years for some aging to have happened. They will get used to the new, thinner you in time.

W989 · 14/09/2020 14:32

@Powerlessstepmum yes its been around 2-3 years since I have been this weight.

And well done so far - I know how hard it is!

BaitandSwitch · 14/09/2020 14:35

Size 30 Levis and I'm a size 10, similar height to you. I suggest that size 26 on you at 5' 8 means you're too thin (26" more like size 6 - 8 ie adolescent, teen size).

W989 · 14/09/2020 14:35

@Powerlessstepmum Intermittent fasting worked well. It reset my eating habits. It was hard work at first. But after a while you get used to it. Its like having a new wardrobe again

@BaitandSwitch I'm in a 28 Levis comfortably.

26 waist isn't crazy girl a 5'8" woman, the UK is overweight and peoples view of what "too thin" is in this country is massively distorted.

Yes, but someone with a 28inch waist at 5’8 (or, indeed, much shorter!) is unlikely to be overweight, so this is irrelevant.

TheMarzipanDildo · 14/09/2020 14:38

I don’t think it’s particularly healthy to try and change your body to fit clothes.

W989 · 14/09/2020 14:39

@TheMarzipanDildo I agree. 28 is healthy size. Its just I have 2 pairs I came across in a 26.

OP posts:
W989 · 14/09/2020 14:40

@TheMarzipanDildo I cant decide whether to keep them and just forget about it for now.

I'm not as thin as you, but after losing weight a couple of years ago, I've noticed that the difference between me looking healthy and looking gaunt and old is less than half a stone (I'm late 40s so no doubt much more leeway if you're younger).

After a certain stage, it all comes off my face and boobs and I start to look bony which I'm not personally keen on.

The reason I'm saying this is that I got a bit fixated with reaching a certain point on the scale and lost sight of how I actually looked and felt which was the whole point of losing the weight. When I put on a few pounds I realised I actually looked better a little bit bigger.

FOKKYFC · 14/09/2020 14:50

Isn't 26 ins about a size six? I'd say at 5 ft 8 ins that's pretty bloody thin, irrespective of whatever anyone else on here may say about normalising obesity . . . 🙄

W989 · 14/09/2020 14:51

@FOKKYFC Its a size 8

OP posts:
FOKKYFC · 14/09/2020 14:54

Well I'm looking at two sites that say it's a six, although I accept they all vary. I'm 5 ft 9 ins. When I was 8 st 11 ins I was still a size 10 and I was underweight, for sure. I'm just sounding a note of caution. I'm not crazy about all this 'perfectly slim' business.

W989 · 14/09/2020 15:07

@FOKKYFC well sizes may vary. I certainly do not want to be underweight and if I hadn't have found these 2 pairs of jeans in the wardrobe, I wouldn't be asking for other peoples opinion on here. Grin

@sleepyhead yes age plays a big factor in the way our weight is displayed. Some friends say it's either face or figure. And for some that is true!

You had 20 pairs of jeans!? Just throw out the 26s you’ve still got a pair for every day of the week 😅
