To buy DD a Tamagotchi?

Hello,

Is it a good idea to buy DD a Tamagotchi? I had one in the 1990s and thought having one would be good for DD as she might learn a bit of responsibility by taking care of her virtual pet. That said, I don't want her to be upset if the pet dies and this is why I want one that can be paused when she goes to school, etc. Are you for or against buying her one? Any feedback is welcome.
Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to mention she's 7.

It wouldn't hurt to get her one. I didn't know you could still buy them.

Can you still get them ??

My 9 year old has one and loves it, made me feel very nostalgic. They don’t ‘die’ in the new version they grow up and go home then a new egg is delivered Grin

Oh I like this idea! May be a nice stocking filler for mine (6,9).

purpleme12 · 13/09/2020 11:54

I don't think a tamagotchi is as big a deal as you seem to think it is
I wouldn't say it was a way of teaching them responsibility really on a tamagotchi
And I can't see a child getting upset about a virtual character dying
I would get her one just because it would be fun for her no other reason

And I can't see a child getting upset about a virtual character dying

Haha, I cried when mine died. Never dealt with a real life death by that point, still haven't tbh!

Toddlerteaplease · 13/09/2020 12:00

Oh they were awesome toys!

MissMaple82 · 13/09/2020 13:51

I think my tamagotchi died within a few days 🙄 great idea, it wasnt a big deal when mine died, I was fully aware it wasn't real 😆

If you’re prepared to care for it like one of your own children while she’s at school, go ahead!
Mine was usually dead by the time I got home!

MitziK · 13/09/2020 14:24

Oh, God, no.

I remember the first time round.

You don't want that; a Hamster or fish would be more likely to survive than one of them.

milienhaus · 13/09/2020 14:27

I remember getting very annoyed at my mum for letting my and my sisters’ die when we were at school ... don’t do it to yourself!

m0therofdragons · 13/09/2020 14:27

My dc have VTech watches that have pets like tamagotchi’s. They love them

CatsArePeopleToo · 13/09/2020 14:31

I had a faulty one where a pet would simply disappear if device was shaken Sad had to be handled with utmost care

MrsMop1964 · 13/09/2020 14:36

my son (now 34) had one . It was a five minute wonder when he realised I wasn't going to keep it alive when he was at school , but if you can easily afford it and think she'll like it, go ahead.

IamMaz · 13/09/2020 14:58

My son had one [he's now 28!!!!]. I made him put it on a cord round his neck so he could look after it. All was fine until I took him to a garden centre and he bent over a plant that was near a bucket of water.... yes, you've got it. In went the Tamagotchi and it drowned...
Maybe I'll get him one for a Christmas Stocking gift this year? Smile
