Halloween - trick or treat ...

Posting here for traffic to get some ideas.

Just wondered what people think it will look like this year?? Will you take your children trick or treating? All be it with an adult who knocks on the doors with a stick?
Will you welcome trick or treaters? Will you throw the sweets at them ??!!
How will it work ??!!!

I have been wondering the same.
It;s a huge thing where I live normally, kids are out in huge numbers I usually give away tons of sweets,
I have no idea what will happen- will it be safe?

meow1989 · 12/09/2020 21:48

We are taking ds to a Halloween outside event thing with limited capacity and pumpkin picking. I'm going to dress us up. Hes only 2 so too young for trick or treating but I might let him have a little wander round the area before late.

Im not sure about trick or treaters, I normally love opening the door to the kids but will have to see what the local numbers are. We were invited to a party but thts obviously a no no now

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/09/2020 21:56

Usually love it and get through a lot of candy and decorate outside but this year we are going to give it a miss. Can’t see how it can be done safety from 2m away and don’t fancy a huge number of different people at the door.

I may leave some treats out if I can find a way to do it as a bowl with many hands doesn’t appeal.

SpeedofaSloth · 12/09/2020 21:57

I can't think how we can do the usual trick or treating, sadly.

Merryoldgoat · 12/09/2020 22:00

My husband is a Halloween nut and had planned to do a big party for the kids - he’s absolutely gutted.

I think we’ll do SOMEthing - maybe give out wrapped sweets in gloves hands? I don’t know - it’s such a nice holiday for the kids but the safety aspect certainly makes me nervous.

RaggieDolls · 12/09/2020 22:02

I went to Hobbycraft today and the usually large Halloween section was tiny so I think they are assuming most people won't take part.

Spied · 12/09/2020 22:04

We won't be taking part this year and won't be answering the door.
'Scary' movie, snacks and ghost stories for us at home.

doublecheeseburgermediumfries · 12/09/2020 22:13

It's our first Halloween in our house and I was looking forward to having trick or treaters for the first time. I still hope to have them and will have individual bags of sweets and possibly give them out using tongs 😂

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 12/09/2020 22:16

too much sugary crap
all that cardboard and plastic waste
teaching children to beg......
Halloween cancelled seems like a good idea.

UndertheCedartree · 12/09/2020 22:16

I've already told mine I don't think trick or treating will be happening. I have suggested we have our own little party. We can do a craft and cake decorating maybe make chocolate coated apples. I will put together a little bag of sweets each too.

This.

MovedByFanciesThatAreCurled · 12/09/2020 22:32

It’s really is possible to do Halloween in Covid and it’s frustrating that so many people are willing to just give up/in without thinking around Things.

Trick or Treat? Just put a bag full of individually wrapped sweets in a pumpkin/bucket at the end of your drive/outside front door with a bottle of hand sanitiser next to it. If you are that concerned then dettol the whole thing at the end of the night or just chuck them.

Decorations? No problem. Just put them up.

We won’t be able to have the school party as normal but, apart from that, I can’t see why Halloween can’t be as normal

Exactly. I don’t know this poster’s children do Halloween but my children certainly don’t beg.

My son asked me what would happen regards being able to go trick or treating. I’m stumped on how it will work too with many people still trying to shield as much as possible I expect the number of people opening doors may be lower than normal so have told him depending on guidelines at the time it may not happen. I’ve booked the day off work to do Halloween activities at home and we always do a movies so may just celebrate at home.

TheCanyon · 12/09/2020 22:54

I fully expect Nicola sturgeon to release some guidance on halloween, I've told mine it won't be happening this year anyway. We won't be going trick or treating, will probably make up bags to drop off to friends/neighbours kids.

Confused

I love Halloween, not sure about trick or treating this year, but as a back up plan you could do a trick or treat scavenger hunt at home?

Get dressed up, go for a spooky ghost walk (maybe tell your kids a ghost story while walking and get a relative/friend to jump out and scare them at a scary bit), and then head back home for a trick or treat scavenger hunt around the house/garden?

StoneofDestiny · 12/09/2020 22:59

Don't care what they do as long as they only go to houses with pumpkins outside and leave everybody else undisturbed, and their parents are there to supervise this.

It's fun for lots of people, but sad that every year nightshift workers get disturbed, babies just put down to sleep get woken up and people just wanting a quiet night get thumps on the door for hours even though it's clear they aren't participating - no pumpkin, no knocks.

VestaTilley · 12/09/2020 23:00

I don’t welcome trick or treaters anyway 😂

I think the responsible thing to do this year would be to not do it.

formerbabe · 12/09/2020 23:03

My dc love Halloween, we always go to a party at our local soft play as well as trick or treating...not gonna happen this year...I'm quite sad about it

MsJaneAusten · 12/09/2020 23:05

I’m going to do Halloween at home bigger and better than I ever have before. I’ll put a Halloween tree outside with individually hanging sweets so that kids can take one without touching others, and I’ll still take my kids to the decorated houses and/or our friends’ houses.

And as soon as Halloween is over, I’m putting the Christmas tree up. We’ve missed out on so much this year. We need to be flexible and cautious, but I’m ready for some fun now.

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 13/09/2020 00:07

I'm having a Halloween party, just me, hubby & our two kids. Games, sweets, music etc! I plan to make it fun! I hope no one knocks on my door this year as I won't be opening it.

Dee1975 · 13/09/2020 07:33

That’s what I was thinking - family party for the children with games and themed food. We won’t put a pumpkin out so won’t get any visitors.
I like the idea of a Halloween tree though so children can take a pre wrapped treat from it. Worried though that some older kids might just take the lot in one go though ....!

Mine are only 2 and 4. We'll carve pumpkins, eat sweets and watch a film. They'll be happy with that.
