Job Application Assessments

Not an AIBU but has anyone been successful in a job app after completing an on line assessment. The sort of thing I mean are for Customer Service jobs. The question is usually about an unhappy customer and how you would deal with them. One of the options is to refer to your Manager, one to offer refund. I never know (because these are junior min wage jobs) if you have authority to issue refunds and how would you know if you don't work there yet! If anyone has any experience I would be very grateful. Trying to help someone who is applying to Tesco B&Q etc and not sure what to advise

Do you get the option to explain why you’ve made a choice? Seems like a trick question as would depend on company policy

No opportunity to explain your choice. Just multiple choice.

if it’s a really low run call centre job the question exists to check you have read the job description - because you often need to refer any refund to your manager (even if it’s just a pound) and it’s a useful way to screen out people who may want more autonomy.

If there’s a lot of questions all multiple choice it will take into account answers to all questions and give information based on your style to the hirer. There is probably no right or wrong answer to individual questions

Part of the assessment is to see how you react to an impossible or lose/lose situation. The questions quite deliberately don't have a right answer, just multiple wrong ones. In any job you have situations where whatever decision you make is the "wrong" one from one person's point of view.
