To ask what you would do if your dog may or may not have eaten some of the plastic from the cheddar cheese pack??

Just that really....

I've just found the dense plastic wrapper from an empty pack of Cathedral cheddar torn with little bits on the lawn. Doesn't look as if he has actually eaten any but difficult to know.

He's a small dog.... who loves cheese!

On the assumption that it's good to have bulk to carry it through him if he has eaten any, Ive given him some kibble, yogurt and kaolin.... and am crossing my fingers

What would you do?

Has this happened to you? And what was the outcome?

Posting on AIBU for the traffic.... thank you!

Yes this has happened to my dog in the past. Nothing happened, he just made a wrapped up poo the next day.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2020 19:05

It'll come out the other end, don't worry.

Bubbletrouble43 · 11/09/2020 19:12

My jrt ate a shred of carrier bag once and when it came out the other end I had to help it. The joy of dog ownership.

BashfulClam · 11/09/2020 19:13

My dog ate the plastic that had been round black pudding. It hung out of her arse for a few days (she wouldn’t let us pull it out)

SnackSizeRaisin · 11/09/2020 19:25

It will almost certainly be fine. Go to the vet if your dog has vomiting or loses appetite over the next few days.
Never ever pull anything that is hanging from their bottom - if stuck higher up it can cheesewire through the guts causing fatal injuries.

wigglerose · 11/09/2020 19:27

I'd wait and see. SnackSizeRaisin has some good advice.

Bloody animals!

loveyouradvice · 11/09/2020 19:36

Wow Snacksize that is brilliant advice... I would have instinctively pulled and now won't do so....

Really glad Im not only one foolish enough to put a bag where the wee fella could nab it

Yep my dog as eaten a whole lot worse than that. It’ll come out the other side

IceIceCoffee · 11/09/2020 19:38

I have a dog that has been known to poo out a dishcloth I wouldn’t be too concerned personally

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 11/09/2020 19:39

If it.was small I would wait for.it to make an appearance. If it was quite big I'd.worrry rhat it would cause a blockage. But it sounds like little pieces that are going.to work their.way through Grin

harriethoyle · 11/09/2020 19:40

My dog once ate a fishnet stocking. Imagine that conversation with the vet (who barely suppressed his hilarity whilst advising watch and wait!) Grin

Paperthin · 11/09/2020 19:40

Oh no! Watchful waiting as @SnackSizeRaisin says- if I went to the vets every time my dog ate something she shouldn’t I’d be there every week. She is terrible - wrappers out of the bin, tea towels ( just small bites!) tissues, cardboard, cow pats.....

Itsrainingnotmen · 11/09/2020 19:41

My Husky ate a flip flop 2 summers ago.
Dpuppy recently ate 2 soldiers, several Nerf bullets and a wooden whale ornament..

My labrador ate far worse over her life. She shat out gravel once or twice.

Coffeeisnecessary · 11/09/2020 19:42

I know of a dog that ate a pop sock, his poo came out ready wrapped. My dog often eats babybels, makes the poos easier to see in the grass at least.

MsVestibule · 11/09/2020 19:43

I did not know you shouldn't pull anything out of them if it's stuck!! Thanks for the advice.

isthismylifenow · 11/09/2020 19:46

My one e dog ate my dd's retainer. It came out the other end in two pieces.

I'm sure her eyes were watering for hours.

Years ago my Labrador ate a whole frozen leg of lamb. It was still in the plastic. Found a plastic poop about 2 days later. It explained things as for two days we didn't know what had happened to the bloody roast. It just disappeared. Poof. I thought I had gone mad and emptied out the freezer thinking that perhaps I didn't take it out.

Yes! Our border terrier ate a baby bel, complete with wax and plastic. He must have known he was being an idiot because he barely chewed it .... but he was fine

What is it with tissues...

Both of my dogs love tissues. One got a bit of loo roll yesterday. It was a big game to get it off her.

forrestgreen · 11/09/2020 19:56

Nothing, they eat enough poo bags...

loveyouradvice · 11/09/2020 20:29

Loving these stories!!!!!

Makes me feel so much better..... and relaxed!

Teaches me not to Google too ... first three things I opened all said ring or see your vet urgently!!!! Which did feel a bit overkill....

So careful eye out for next few days and doubt we will get anything so exciting as plastic-wrapped poo!

Good advice snacksize, that wouldn't have occurred to me. I won't be doing it again, Thankyou x

loveyouradvice · 12/09/2020 18:57

So far so good - his usual chirpy self!

Given that Google reckons it takes 6-8 hours for food to pass through a dog, I'm gently hopeful.

We'll keep a careful eye on him for the rest of the week, and give him some more kaolin just in case it helps move anything through
