To think friend is irresponsible

Name changed as this could be outing if friend is on here..
Me and friend both have a DC the same age both around 1 years old.
On phone to said friend today whilst sitting with my DC eating their lunch and was saying how I needed to go sort some things out upstairs such as washing, tidying etc once DC had finished eating their lunch. Friend then said why don't you do it whilst DC eats.. I said I would never leave DC unattended whilst eating even though I cut up food accordingly so they won't choke there is still a risk and I would never forgive myself if I came down having left child eating to find they had choked to death or got something lodged in their throat. Friend then went on to say she always leaves her DC to do house jobs whilst they eat as that's the only time she gets to do it! I dunno why this has bothered me so much maybe because I know how easy it is for a child to choke on food and she seemed so unbothered! Am I being too precious or is this completely irresponsible?!

I think the answer is obvious.

It's also depressing that a kid is left to sit and eat alone. I mean, I often used to end up hopping up and down to grab things while they ate, or folded washing, but I'd bring it to the dining room and do it there, and we'd chat while the kids ate.

I occasionally let DD eat breakfast while I do the washing up if it's built up but I bring her high chair near to the sink and chat to her so I can see her at all times. Would never leave her and all other meals we have together round the table. Imagine coming downstairs to find your baby had choked to death on something while you were cleaning the loo. It's unimaginable.

I mean surely the key factor is age. 1 year old not OK, 3 years plus totally fine imo

Totally missed you said they were both 1 ye old! No not OK

No. You’re friend is taking huge risk.

My then-14-month-old choked on food once. I had to hold her head-down and bang her back to dislodge it. She couldn’t cry out because the food was properly blocking the airway. I’d not have known anything was the matter had I not been in the room with her.
She was absolutely fine afterwards (well, after a really good cry).
