COVID Test

First of all, apologies for not putting this in the right area but I wanted voting on!

My Grandfather is going into a care home shortly but the home requires him to have a negative Covid test first. Fair enough. I call 119 to book one who say he isn’t allowed to have one as he has no symptoms. Also fair enough.

I’m just curious really, so...

YABU why should the NHS use their resources for people entering care homes

YANBU 119 should give tests in this scenario

Don’t worry we will make sure he is clear before he goes in 😁

Might have to book a private test. There is already a shortage of tests for those with symptoms

It's a ridiculous set up, I was redeployed to my NHS Trusts' COVID swabbing team for 4 months (booking appointments) so I know exactly how frustrating it is

the care home won't accept him (even though they could confine him to his own room for 14 days) and he isn't eligible for a test on the .gov website because he doesn't have symptoms!

we got round it by sending the patient to our staff drive through, which is run by our NHS Trust - is this an option for you? Hopefully the staff involved in his discharge will be able to get this sorted for you

I have to say when the care home said go and get him tested I didn’t even think of private testing! We will of course make sure this is done, they are quarantining new residents on arrival too so going belt and braces which is good 😊
