I think I was around 9/10 when I tried beer , hated it.

I've been told I loved my dummy dipped in lager as a toddler Grin

sunshineandshowers21 · 09/09/2020 19:22

a glass of champagne for the millennium, so i was 9. then started drinking most weekends from 14. and now i drink probably once or twice a year. spending my early teen years necking cheap cider in a park put me off alcohol for life!

WinterAndRoughWeather · 09/09/2020 19:24

I had sips of wine and beer as a little child quite often, but first had a full glass of cider at 12, felt horrible and was convinced I was going to die. It was a long while before I had cider again.

newyeardelurker · 09/09/2020 19:25

Does rum butter count? Had that on bread at my grandmas when tiny. She had a lot of grandkids I think it quietened us down... otherwise probably 14 or so for small shandy

ToastyCrumpet · 09/09/2020 19:30

8 or 9. Sherry or Stone’s Ginger Wine that my parents bought at Christmas. I remember wanting a pee straightaway!

MrsMonkeyBear · 09/09/2020 19:34

Probably younger than I should have been. Possibly 4/5, my grandpa would give me sips of his home-brew.

I also remember having a shandy at Christmas/new years from a very young age too.

As an adult, I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with alcohol and have been largely booze-free for 6 years.

Miriel · 09/09/2020 19:36

13, in a pub with older friends. I remember my cousins were allowed sips at family parties before that but I wasn't because my parents didn't like the idea.

ItWasntMyFault · 09/09/2020 19:36

15, out with friends.

My parents don't drink so it was never at home.

Kreacheriscleaning · 09/09/2020 19:39

My grandad gave us the froth from his pint of bitter from being a few months old. Hmm
Snowball at Christmas at about 6 and champagne when I was flower girl aged 8.

MomToTwoBabas · 09/09/2020 20:24

About 12 or 13 my aunt would give me blue wkd type drinks. Vodka at 14. I dont drink now probably put me off

MomToTwoBabas · 09/09/2020 20:25

I had my 16th bday in a night club in town and got given a free bottle of bubbly as I had an 18 badge on 😂

MomToTwoBabas · 09/09/2020 20:26

Bad thing was I'd been going there for ages before that

Sparklesocks · 09/09/2020 20:34

I can’t remember exactly. I definitely had sips of my dad’s beer or my mum’s wine as a child and immediately hated both. Started drinking properly (well sugary/sweet alcopop type drinks) when I was about 15-16 and went to parties with friends.

hotcrossbun83 · 09/09/2020 20:35

My parents were relaxed about alcohol, I can’t remember exact age, and I think it has given me a pretty healthy relationship with it. I’m trying to do the same for my kids so my 6 year old has the odd sip of beer and just tried his first champagne on holiday - he and his friend got a thumb each in a proper glass

Lurchermom · 09/09/2020 20:36

4ish? My family is Italian background so I was brought up on wine and water with dinner from a very young age. As I got older the amount of wine increased and the water reduced. Drinking shandies from about 9/10.

Someonesayroadtrip · 09/09/2020 20:53

Well mine is embarrassing... I am 36 and never drank alcohol! Eck!

I was raised in a strict religion/cult which alcohol was forbidden. I left the religion/cult several years ago and I have taken a couple of sips of things but I don't like the taste and I really don't like the idea of being drunk. I go out "drinking" with friends fairly often (pre COVID) but I just drink non alcoholic drinks. Like I say, I have taken sips and I did force myself to drink wine once but one month full and I threw it up.

I'm so not used to it and really don't feel like investing in the time to get used to it as I feel I don't need it. If that makes sense at all.

m00Ma · 09/09/2020 21:07

I have always been ambivalent about alcohol, as my uncle gave me far too many martinis when i was about 12 at a family party & I was so sick, it was vile. My parents were not regular drinkers-my dad, who left when i was 4, was an alcoholic & viiolent with it, so I guess that coloured us subsequently. Oh, Babycham at grandparents anniversary comes to mind -about 9? And sneaking a mouthful of whisky from stepdads drinks cabinet. About 13. Yeuch. Its just not my poison!

whiteroseredrose · 09/09/2020 21:14

My dad bought me Asti Spumante for my 13th birthday but I think I'd had Dubonnet and lemonade at a party earlier than that. Yuk!

icebearforpresident · 09/09/2020 21:23

When I was 5, maybe 4. I remember it wa Christmas and my dad was drinking a glass of whiskey, I asked if I could have a taste and he let me dip my finger in the glass. Can’t drink whiskey to this day.

AdultierAdult · 09/09/2020 21:28

Really young. Under 5? Used to be given watered down wine with dinner.

Dizzywizz · 09/09/2020 21:31

7/8 wine at Sunday dinner, I guess my parents thought it would stop me goin crazy on it when I was older, however it didn’t! Dh never had any until about 16/17 and also went overboard when late teens/twenties so neither approach worked for us.
I wouldn’t dream of giving my 8 year old alcohol! However my mums puddings are known for being very alcoholic on special occasion and all the grandkids gave been allowed those from toddlers so 🤷🏻‍♀️

museumum · 09/09/2020 21:31

I was 13. Wanted to try vodka, had no idea how much people usually drank (my parents didn’t really) so downed half a bottle. Oops. Passed out, threw up but thankfully recovered pretty quickly.

nokidshere · 09/09/2020 21:48

I was 23! I had a quantro, lemonade and lime (blue moon) at a friends party.

MorrisZapp · 09/09/2020 21:50

About 9 am. I like to be good and leathered for Homes Under the Hammer.

Pinkyandthebrainz · 09/09/2020 21:57

Toddler.
