Baby/toddler shoes

My LO is 14 months old, has taken first steps and cruising.

Got given loads of second hand shoes from friends - some in good condition, some nearly new.

Got LOs feet measured and ended up buying brand new as it turns out I feel a bit queasy about my baby wearing second hand shoes! I think because his feet are always growing and second hand shoes have already moulded to someone else's foot.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Explained this to a friend and she called me precious! I most definitely am not as LO has been wearing hand me down clothes since birth practically!

AIBU to spend £30 on new shoes for my LB when I have a drawer full of second hand ones?

You are silly.

They grow out of their shoes very quickly so there is no time to mould to their feet.

Also when your child wets their shoes by standing in a puddle of water and pouring more water on them, you need a spare pair for them to wear while those dry.

I think the moulding to their foot thing is marketing by Clarks. Very clever though, I definitely believed it with DC1.

But it doesn't matter. If you don't feel happy with second hand, pass the shoes on to somebody who is and buy new ones.

If you’ve got £30 to more or less literally throw away then that’s your call, isn’t it? As long as you aren’t also constantly moaning about money then it’s nothing to do with your friend.

Proper everyday walking shoes, you may have a point about moulding to feet. Shoes which babies have used to learn to cruise and walk in for a few weeks aren’t really the same. But if you want new, buy new.

Thank you for the responses.

I am a FTM who genuinely wanted to know if I was BU, so I appreciate the honesty.

I was not complaining about money at all to my friend, she has a little boy the same age as mine so was simply asking why I'd decided to buy brand new.

I am just trying to do right by my LO, not intentionally throwing money down the drain at all.
