Anyone have any experience of skin cancer?

I’m so scared I feel sick. Brown patch on my face that has grown from a freckle 7 years ago (according to photos) to being a big patch around 1.5cm. It was always flat and smooth, a few weeks ago it raised up and is itching. Now it’s gone crusty scabby feeling. I have appointment with consultant on Wednesday but I’m so scared after googling my symptoms. I can post a pic of needed. Any experience?

I had an itching mole, it wasn't cancerous but it was a warning that I am more at risk of skin cancer because of it.

I'm at in a similar position ❤️ I have dermatology appointment on 21st. Hoping you are ok & that others can help you from their experiences xxx

Oh. I have this on my arm. I'm now thinking I should look into it further.

I had a itchy patch of dry skin on my back and also a pearl colour shape on my front, both were bcc (a type of skin cancer) I was referred within the 2 week nhs timeline for both, then has biopsy’s got results back and waited quite a while then to have treatment which was removing the area under local.

One scar is really neat, the other not so much. Other than keep checking myself there is no further follow up. So all done and dusted, although worrying at the time it’s turned out absolutely fine.

I’m sure you’ll be seen really quickly. Fingers crossed for you Smile

One of the possibilities is a basal cell carcinoma. They are very slow growing and easily removed. They don't cause any further problems and don't spread.

I hope it's something like that.

seborric keratoses?

Mouseinateapot · 07/09/2020 21:52

I had a melanoma removed a few years ago. It's scary but it sounds like even if it is something like that then you've caught it nice and early so it would just be removed. I know it's impossible not to worry and there are many thing it could be other than that, just wanted to let you know that even if it is skin cancer it can be easily treated.

Have you googled seborric keratoses?

I had that on my face, grew over time, I was horrified. It started to look like a cauliflower so I made app with docs for 3 weeks time. During that time it bled, went scabby, slowly reduced and disappeared!

However I was convinced it was skin cancer but a zoom call with the doc put my mind at rest.

That’s so odd, this is also on my face and strangely enough, since it started going scabby DH swears it appears to be getting smaller

I had skin cancer about 10 years ago, removed safely and no further problems. Get it checked out but try not to worry.

ShandlersWig · 07/09/2020 22:33

Well keep your eye on it. Maybe take a picture every few days?

My doc said there are very very rare cancers that get smaller. On the whole cancerous one grow rather than shrink.

Worth getting checked out though.

Paddyclova · 08/09/2020 00:23

That looks like a seborrheic keratosis to me but I am not a doctor.

thatonesmine · 08/09/2020 00:27

I had a malignant melanoma removed 30-odd years ago, it was a simple procedure under local anaesthetic and has never returned. I've been extremely careful in the sun ever since though.
