To think Ocado with M&S is a bit pants?

I've been a regular Ocado customer for 11 years. I'm trying to place an order this morning and am already really missing Waitrose - particularly the Essentials range, which offered really good value IMO.

Ocado is advertising some of the new M&S products as "great value" when they aren't. Take cucumbers for example - the M&S "great value" cucumber is 60p and the Ocado one right next to it is 45p. How does that make M&S great value, unless it's a significantly bigger cucumber (not clear from the website?)

I will miss the convenience of Ocado (including next day delivery and the easy to use website) but will be switching to Waitrose own delivery after this shop.

AIBU?

@Lardlizard Why wouldn’t You just order form Waitrose if you want Waitrose stuff ? Waitrose don’t deliver to my postcode, Ocado do.

Aragog · 07/09/2020 21:09

I have two shops since the 1st, Neither worked out dearer - some of the new M&S stuff was slightly cheaper than the Waitrose version, some same price, a couple slightly dearer. Overall shops have been very similar to previous.

I don't miss the Waitrose brands particularly and have been happy with the M&S ones.

Both shops arrived on time with no missing items, just two subs for the first one though that was only booked a couple of days before which might not have leaped. Other one was booked about 5 days before delivery - that was no missing items and no subs.

Been pleased so far and teen DD was pleased with her free Percy Pig sweets!

£6.99 for delivery with Ocado.
Free with Waitrose
I’ll be using Waitrose.

lotsolove · 08/09/2020 09:08

I've been using Waitrose delivery for years. Never had any major problems and any small issues have been resolved in one email. The delivery is free too.

lemons888 · 08/09/2020 09:18

Also what’s with the M&S “Remarksable” range? Is it a typo for “Remarkable”? Confused

Waitrose delivery is awful. Ocado is usually faultless. I do actually wonder where they get their drivers. I've never had anyone be anything but professional, helpful and friendly. I feel like Ocado left and married the OW called M&S. It's just shit.

It really is! Sad

Remarksable - what wag though that up eh? I feared the worst, but the switch has been okay for me. My DH doesn't think the sausages and bacon are as good, he liked the Duchy sausages as they had no sulphites or nitrates. The rest of the family is vegetarian and thus far all the switches have worked well.We cook everything form scratch so the ready meals were never on my radar. Ocado still stocks all the brands of pasta and the like that we use. We will miss the Waitrose Hom Mali rice. I have tried every other online delivery several times and always go back to Ocado as they are the only reliable ones.

Not impressed here although I'll give it a few weeks. Things we buy regularly are substantially more expensive or the same price for a smaller product, eg juice cartons for the kids lunchboxes were 1.80 for six from Waitrose, M&S 1.80 for three (slightly bigger, but I don't want bigger), frozen croissants now 3.25 when they'd been two packs for a fiver for years. And I miss Waitrose cheese and Cooks Ingredients. Never buy ready meals so couldn't care less about that aspect.

Stripesgalore · 08/09/2020 17:56

I am very happy with it. I like the M&S food, particularly the salad. I order from Tesco, Asda and Ocado as they all have different things I like. I would never rely on one to provide everything perfectly.

We live in Waitroseland, within 10 miles of their head office and we have a choice of about 10 stores we could shop at if heading in that direction. So any comparison is unfair but never had an issue with Waitrose.com delivery. We don't really use it very often as I can be in one of 3 or 4 Waitrose in less than 20 minutes, and I adore their Quick Shop scanners, - in and out with a week's shopping and home again in less than 45 minutes. Being dead near their massive HQ and warehouses, seems stock isn't an issue ever. What's not to like?

Also I'm with the poster further up who dislikes M&S ready meals, you're right they ARE too salty.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 08/09/2020 18:29

Funny because my shop is cheaper and I am loving it, clearly was not that into Waitrose stuff as I thought.

dameofdilemma · 09/09/2020 16:34

As a consequence I've made my first Waitrose order this week....will see how it goes and report back...

Waitrose arrived fine, no subs, no missing items and on time.
Have put in a W order for next week.
Bye bye Ocado, it was fun while it lasted 😘

minipie · 09/09/2020 19:09

I’ve put in a Waitrose order too.

I feel bad because I believe the split was more Waitrose’s choice than Ocado’s and so it’s a bit unfair to side with the one who walked out. But I want the Waitrose food...

Polnm · 09/09/2020 19:27

The stuff I am missing is not Waitrose stuff, it is other ranges that Ocado have cut because m&s do something similar (full of sugars and crap at a higher price)

Polnm · 09/09/2020 19:34

My Ocado order came from Newcastle (normally comes from York?). They then drove back to Newcastle for their next delivery. I live near York . How can that had viable. Deliver in Newcastle. Pop to orth Yorkshire and then back to Newcastle.

Bonkers and never had that before
I selected the green delivery! Last week that led to 2 Ocado vans on my road at the same time and this week to a 156 mild round trip

Herewefall · 09/09/2020 19:51

Our closest Waitrose is awful - so not chance of wanting their food - the fruit and veg are really poor quality, staff are grumpy and unfriendly - the whole place is just unpleasant. In my experience M&S is better quality - I'm not big into convenience foods but I think M&S is certainly better than Waitrose in this regard too. I do miss the Waitrose sea salt butter though.
