Child with temperature

Just wanting to rant tonight on my friends behalf about how rubbish this all is.
Her 6 year old has developed a cold over the weekend and has a mild but definite temperature (38.4). She had been back at school 3 days!! After speaking to 111 they now have to isolate as a family so her husband can’t go to work (teacher) and her year 6 child can’t go in either until they have the test results. I just feel so frustrated for them.
AIBU to think most schools could potentially have half their kids off very soon isolating waiting for results?!!
Mine still aren’t even back yet 😫

Can kids go to school if they have a cold with no temperature? Just mildly snotty?

BlippiToys · 06/09/2020 23:23

Yep.
That's the way it is

Our secondary school has been open 2 days and 5 teachers have been diagnosed with Covid - 19.

Whole school closed tomorrow and every chd who has had contact with them 5 teachers have to self isolate for 14 days, even if they haven't got any symptoms

This is the new 'new

Snotty is fine. Sore throat is fine. Headache is fine.

Temp (over 38.6 officially but this seems to have gotten lost), new persistent cough and/or loss of taste or smell are the 3 key symptoms.

Results should be back quickly and they get back to work etc .. if negative. It’s a pain, but I’d rather kids were back with interruption than not at all. Fully prepared for my 2 to be sent home due to someone in their bubble or teachers showing symptoms - it’s just going to be like this until things move forward (vaccine / better treatment etc ...).

We were told that schools are safe. I will just send the kids back and go to work.

BlippiToys · 06/09/2020 23:30

@guilttripjourno It's people like you why this virus will continue to spread and people will continue to die

PlugUgly1980 · 06/09/2020 23:31

Yes, our school starts back next week and the head has written to us all today saying children will get cold, and snotty noses and sore throats are no concern and don't require a test and they'll administer calpol on a parents request, etc...the usual winter reminder to send children with tissues etc.

guilttripjourno · 06/09/2020 23:34

I was being sarcastic. I have commented before that people should isolate.

Porcupineinwaiting · 06/09/2020 23:35

The temp is defined as over 37.8 for adults, so not that raised at all. Not sure for children.
