To be terrified of sending 3 year old to nursery?

The area we live in currently has the highest coronavirus infection rate. Around 109 cases up since yesterday. I'm really scared about sending my DD to nursery (attached to our primary school). I'm scared she'll catch something...putting things in her mouth etc etc. I'm also 15 weeks pregnant. I don't know what to do. I don't want her to miss out on nursery but then again I don't want her to catch coronavirus. It's scary.

I'm in Scotland and our schools start a bit earlier, so my 3 year old has been for a couple of weeks now. I was a bit anxious but seeing how much she enjoys it makes me glad I've sent her, they really do seem to be keeping everything as clean and safe as possible too.

Children have been back in nursery (for childcare) consistently for 3 months now. The risks to that age group are incredibly low and they are much more resistant to catching it, showing symptoms and passing it on.

Lockdownseperation · 06/09/2020 19:32

How many cases is it per 10,000?

You can check here

It might give you a different perspective.

The risks to her are tiny even if she does catch it.

I must live in the same area and my DD has been going throughout. I was anxious at the start but the nursery she goes to has been amazing and I'm so glad I sent her because she loves it!

We're in the North West and DD has been back at nursery for 3 months. In that entire time there haven't been any covid cases in any of nursery's bubbles (touch wood)

Drogonssmile · 06/09/2020 19:43

I'm in Bolton and DS2 has been in nursery the whole time. Touch wood not one case of COVID in a child, parent or staff member has been reported since it started. The kids have been very well taught, age appropriately.

Jamhandprints · 06/09/2020 19:47

My kids have always caught so many bugs when starting nursery. They just put so many things in their mouths or taste things. There will be no social distancing at that age(nor should there be).
If you are vulnerable then it really isn't that safe. I know its difficult but I'd keep her home if at all possible.

Sciencebabe · 06/09/2020 19:48

If you don't work and don't have a need for childcare then I wouldn't send her in.

I've been working in early years since 1st June in North West England. No cases in our LA in children or staff.
