To worry about my Dd not seeing other children anymore?

Does anyone else have an only child who doesn't really spend time with other kids anymore?

I used to take my dd to the library twice a week for rhyme time and to sing and sign and she did Pre school 2 mornings a week. Now we don't do any of that because of Covid. She looks so longingly at other kids in the park and I feel really sorry for her just being with adults all the time.

She's nearly three and I'm about worried this might be damaging her development. Am I being unreasonable to worry about this or am worrying about nothing?

Nearly 2 year old here, but I absolutely agree, I'm concerned about his little contact she has with other children. She goes to a childminder one day a week, and we meet up regularly with one of my friends who has a daughter 4 months younger than mine. People say they don't play together at that age but the girls love chasing each other and copying each other. It is a worry :(

I felt like this with my daughter. We have a few friends with young children she can mix with though she's 2 and a bit. Is nursery an option? I've just enrolled my daughter 2 morning a week and although expensive she is loving it! No tears or not wanting to go and I can see her playing with other kids when I go to pick her up :) plus the couple of hours to get stuff done is a game changer :)

Can she not go back to pre-school now?

Do you have any friends with children a similar age?

Can she not go an play in the park with the other children?

While things for that age group are far from normal there has been some progress with soft play and activities opening up. Admittedly the more expensive end of the market than the cheaper community based groups which have more hurdles with volunteers, community venues and lack of policy within an organisation.

It's good to know I'm not the only one worried about this.

Her preschool merged with the local nursery during lockdown so there were more staff to watch key workers children and I haven't heard from them since term started. Might have to give them a ring tomorrow. I was quite worried about sending her back, but I'm also worried about not sending her back. Confused

Just send her to a preschool. She’s three and needs a bit of socialisation- couple of mornings a week sort of thing

Do you have no friends with kids of a similar age she can play with? Will she not go to play with the kids in the park with a bit of encouragement?

gingganggooleywotsit · 06/09/2020 21:47

it is a worry my son is 4.5 and I think they do need to spend time with kids their own age for their development. He has an older sister but she's in her teens. I just try and arrange as many play dates in the park as I can, and also encourage him to make friends where I can.

Writerandreader · 06/09/2020 21:53

Yes she does need other kids. She is zero risk of covid so do send her back. Also you can meet with other parents and small children outside or for playdates-- you could use your local Facebook group to find local parents?

Porcupineinwaiting · 06/09/2020 22:10

3 is a good age for preschool.

Zero risk of covid?
