To think they shouldn't leave dog home alone

I love dogs as I grew up with them and I have cats of my own so not an animal hater.
About 3 weeks ago next door got an absolutely lovely puppy but right from the start they've left it at home. They both work from home so not an issue in the week but on weekends they're out for hours with their children and the dog whines and barks the whole bloody time.
Three hours yesterday and so far two and a half hours today. I don't understand why they are going out for hours when they have just got a dog. Obviously they can go out when they want but surely common sense says you start off seeing how the dog copes for half an hour or so not just leave it for three hours.
WIBU to mention it to them? I'm not sure they realise that he's crying the whole time. My husband says to leave it but he and the children all have hearing loss so they don't hear it so much. I wouldn't have a go at them just mention that I hear the dog barking quite a lot when they're out.
Yabu don't say anything

I think you have answered your own question... they may have no idea it is anxious when they go out.
So yes mention it to them

Send a note asking if they are aware that their puppy is crying for hours when left.

Also direct them to some support for this - there are facebook groups (Julie Naismiths separation anxiety group is excellent and free) there are also apps, the Puppito App is free to access, but if you pay the one off fee theres also live trainer support via whatsapp/email etc.

I'd also recommend a pet cam so they can watch, the Clever Dog one available on amazon is the one most of my sep anxiety clients use as its cheap but very functional.

I so could have written this post! My neighbours have done the same thing. So so so so selfish

Why don’t they take the dog with them when they go out? But yes, I think you should politely mention it

Lemonylemony · 06/09/2020 15:46

Please mention it. One of my previous dogs years ago I had no idea she had separation anxiety until my neighbour’s let me know they could hear her when I was out. She didn’t start until after I left and stopped as soon as she heard my car so I never heard her myself and was oblivious. As soon as neighbour let me know she was never left alone again whilst we trained her. She went to a dog sitter on my days off so I could go shopping etc! (Came to work with me otherwise).
