Job didnt ask for cover letter

Hi, on the description of the job it said 'please attach cover letter and fill out short application form'

The 'mandotary' sign like a * sign for things you must fill out was on the name, address, email and phone number and attach CV part of the application form.
However, there was also a 'attach cover letter' part but it did not have the * symbol next to it.

I've always been told to stick to exactly what the job advert says and it only said to attach a CV. Now i've sent my application but i'm wondering whether I should have sent my cover letterBlush

I can withdraw my application and maybe start again but I don't really want to do this as I don't know what actually happens when you withdraw and whether you can apply again

Yes you should have attached a covering letter, as per the description.
When's the deadline?

Sunnnndownan · 06/09/2020 11:22

The description didn't say to attach a cover letter, it only said CV

@Sunnnndownan

The description didn't say to attach a cover letter, it only said CV
Your very first sentence says 'The description said to send CV and covering letter' Confused

So yes send a covering letter. It wasn't asterisked as presumably it's not compulsory to attach one for the application to get submitted.

BadDucks · 06/09/2020 11:35

I’m confused your very first sentence says the description said send a cover letter?

I would always send a cover letter tbh

Sunnnndownan · 06/09/2020 11:40

I meant CV sorry! It says "please attach CV and complete short application form"

I think what you have done is fine. You've followed the instructions.
BlueJava · 06/09/2020 11:46

I also think what you have done is fine - if they have asked for a form and CV that's all you need to give. I've noticed several companies recently change (on platforms like Linkedin) just ask for a CV and form. I imagine it's because people don't read the cover letter in some instances. When we recruit we don't actually get circulated the cover letter, just the CV and fields that were filled in online.

RoomOfRequirement · 06/09/2020 11:47

IME if you don't add a Cover Letter it comes across more that you're applying for a bunch of different jobs instead of really wanting the one you've applied for. That will go against you even if it wasn't expressly asked for. If your CV is great you may still get an interview, but a cover letter is more effort and that's also appreciated.

Sunnnndownan · 06/09/2020 11:49

My CV is personalised to the job with a 'summary' at the top

When's the deadline?

Sunnnndownan · 06/09/2020 12:09

I'd rather not withdraw my application as according to google, it is not always a good thing to withdraw and reapply and some jobs don't let you reapply,
On the advert it only said
"Please attach a CV and complete short application form" and the cover letter wasn't mandotary on the form, unlike the CV,
I presume the cover letter was on there as this is probably an application form that they use for all job advertised on their website so some jobs may require one

My CV is tailored to the job

Then you'll just have to leave it and see. If you don't get wn interview you'll never really know why but you don't want to withdraw it, so it's done. Try and let it go op
