Sorry for posting here, I will post on staff room too but I think more people look on here!

I’m changing career and starting my brand new job of ICT teacher. I’m coming from an administration background so I have knowledge of most IT related programs. I just need some advice on which are the best resources to use in this field. Can anyone point me in right direction please

Training on the job is now very common. I think it's a mistake to take teacher-training out of universities, but it is government policy.

@NewTeacher1 sorry, I'm saying Twitter as well! I made a second account for education stuff and I only follow other relevant teachers on there so it keeps it well curated. I use an alias to so as not to be identifiable. There's loads of good stuff, people are so generous with resources and there are good discussions about teaching and my subject too.

@NewTeacher1

Are you aware of the freely available MOOCs on platforms such as Coursera, FutureLearn and EdX?

These are 12-16 week courses which are run by universities round the world, mainly UK, US and Europe, so not only do you get access to course content but importantly you get a good impression about how course content is delivered to students including online engagement and delivery.

@KimKsButt

Do you think it’s possible for someone to have undertaken even one week of teacher training without at least knowing where on the internet to access some ideas and resources..?

I am a teacher (of over 20yrs) but have never once thought to ask for help on aibu..!

Thank you to the amazing people giving suggestions!

To the annoying and quite irritating people going “surely.....”. Of course I HAVE already got things set in place! I am just using this forum to find things I hadn’t thought of e.g. Twitter! Not that unusual. I rather get broad ideas than stick to things I already know!

Tedious isn't it @NewTeacher1 you'd hope that people would either come on here to give you the information or stfu with their patronising comments. Trouble is if you give chapter and verse on every aspect of your quals and experience it can 'out' you, and people will whinge that they have to wade through too much information.

Hey ho, hope you got some ideas and inspirations. All the best in your new ICT role!

@daisychain01 thank you! X

More and more schools are doing Computing Science at GCSE, and some teach it at KS3.
You could probably apply for a SCITT which gives you "in at the deep end/on the job" training, with one day a week at uni or your SCITT 's teachers' training centre.
Some SCITT routes are salaried, some not. Its worth googling your nearest local SCITT and seeing what they offer.
