Middle aged men 'mansplaing' to teenagers

Next door is having a party (no issues there!) but due to the dog being in and out of the garden like a yo-yo, I've had a window open to pull them back in sharpish at any point that may be annoying or disruptive (I love a good party! And don't want to disturb). Due to this I overheard an end of celebration convo between 2 male guests and NDN 12/13yr old Dd. Basically a full run down on her expressing a couple of opinions on a few subjects, and getting the mansplaining treatment of 2 middle aged (drunk) men knocking her views back, talking over her, and generally leading up to all her comments with 'well yes, but you don't really know!'. I wanted to hang out the bedroom window and shout 'well actually you're both pissed! And she's making a bloody fair point! 😳'.... Clearly I didn't as I'd like to maintain good neighour relations 😅 But still... She did pipe down after being loudly talked over several times and scooted off to bed. They're still out there chatting frankly pissed shit and not even holding a comprehensive convo together 🙄 But you know when you just think this is even a 'non issue' as to why it's never going to be a level playing field?

I don't think I could have kept my mouth shut.

Do you think their attitude was because she was female, or because she was young?

Catsup · 06/09/2020 13:40

I think it was probably due to her being both female and young. I can remember being spoken to like that by older men as a young teen myself. Apparently not much has changed in the passing 30yrs 🙄

Poor lass - she’s got a long road of that ahead of her!

(You sounds like a genuinely nice neighbour btw!)
