I normally take my children trick or treating around our neighbourhood, they get all excited to get dressed up and usually really enjoy it. This year however I am not sure if its the right thing to be doing. I have asked some friends if they plan to still do it and had mixed responses, some saying yes and others saying absolutely no way. I would like to know what others think.

We're planning on the street guising going ahead, but the usual big street activities are cancelled. Normally the road is closed and stuff is set out in the street, but people don't feel comfortable with encouraging kids from round town to come so have decided just to do door-to-door in the street. Everyone gives out bagged treats anyway so easy to wipe down

We'll still be welcoming guisers at our house, I think I'll just make up single bags rather than have kids fish a handful of sweets out themselves.

Ds is only 4 so we've never been round guising yet as he still prefers to hand sweets out to the 'ghosties' and hear their jokes, songs and poems for now.

We decorate the house and garden and make it really spooky.

I've loved Halloween for as long as I can remember.

Going to buy about 78kg of sweets.

That way when they knock and say "Virus or Treat" I shall be OK.

I’m not a fun sponge just because I don’t do Halloween. I live on my own, I’m usually working and most of my friends don’t do anything either.

What’s guising? Is it the Scottish version of trick or treat?

We call it guising in Scotland, yeah.

Allthepinkunicorns · 06/09/2020 20:00

No we will not be trick or treating this year. I will however have a little party with ds and probably invite his cousins. I have loads of Halloween decorations so I will decorate the house as normal and do our usual pumpkin carving. If we are allowed to go pumpkin picking we will also do that.

We’ve been away the last 2 years as it’s on our October half term but will be home this year. I don’t know what we will do I’d have had a Halloween party but can’t with Covid restrictions, don’t think I’ll take out the kids but will buy stuff in in case we have visitors

Were not doing it this year and we usually go all out for Halloween, the whole of the house downstairs gets decorated and we decorate the whole of the garden(with a different theme each year)and we carve a few pumpkins and have a Halloween party or a Halloween tea(depending what day Halloween falls on)we all get dressed up and we give out party bags filled with treats for each trick or treater and we usually end up with over 100 of them.

But this year were doing none of it,I'm very vunerable health wise and my DH does just not want to take the risk and our DC have said the same.

We won't be putting sweets out because we know the lot would most probably be taken by the first few trick or treaters and even if they're not we don't want to be encouraging a queue of children all mixing and the adults they have with them all ending up really close to one another trying to get to the sweets.

Were really hoping it's not a big thing in our area this year due to covid.

But fingers crossed if things are back to normal by next Halloween then we've said we'll go even bigger and better than before to make it up to our DC and all off the other DC that usually come and visit us.

We'd usually go trick or treating but we're going to make some spooky cakes and have a little party instead (us 4 plus my mum and dad).
We wanted to go Pumpkin Picking but the weather looks awful all week so might just get one from the supermarket instead.

Camomila · 26/10/2020 14:53

Oh and watch a scary movie of course (hotel transylvania I think)

MrsJonesAndMe · 26/10/2020 15:18

No little party at home - outside to go with tier 1 fingers crossed
