Job and references. I'm stressed.

Hi,
Been offered a job as an assistant to a psychologist. I graduated last year, I have had placements throughout uni.

This year, I have been working via recruitment agencies as I have struggled to find a job.

However, i've been offered the job but I need to send references over.
I was thinking last night:

I will need to send my recruitment agency details as they are my most recent employer,
Then do I give my placement mentor or uni?
I emailed my mentor in March and she said she would be a reference for jobs I apply for but this job is not in the field I actually studied in, so can I still put her as a reference? Do I need to email her again?

Or can i just put my university down who have a detailed observation about me and how I got on during my placements?

Give all 3. Is it a form you need to complete? Is there space for 2 or a bit for extra info. I would just put an explanation e.g.. "This is my most recent employer from x date to y date. This is my Mentor...during x placement. This is my University reference.
The person doing the check will pick the most relevant.
Why are you stressing?

Because I last emailed my mentor in March and i'm worried incase what if she no longer has the time to give one etc.
Do I email her now?

How long do jobs usually wait for references?

Useful to give too many references as some people are awful at completing them. If they aren’t happy they can ask for more, it’s not final.

O/T but why do so many people working in the field of psychology stress and worry over things most people find relatively normal things to deal with?

Give multiple references. Send a follow up email to your mentor reminding/pushing her to provide a reference for you. The worst she will do is ignore it. She’s not going to flip out and berate you or give a purposely bad reference because you sent a second email in the space of six months.

You can put the recruitment agency, and the university. The majority of references just state "x was employed between this date and that date". I would put down your mentor, she won't have a problem with it, probably she will be pleased for you! If you ever need a reference from the uni and your mentor is no longer there, the uni will confirm what you studied over what dates from a central admin department.

CitizenFame - The first part of your message seems pretty harsh - OP graduated only a year ago and it seems that this will be their first "career" job and so it is pretty normal to worry a lot!

OP - put down your mentor as the 2nd reference. They said they would give you a reference and will be happy to do so. The recruitment agency ref will likely just be confirming the dates you worked for them, so the mentor will probably be more detailed.

The recruitment agency will just confirm dates you worked from and to, pretty standard request for them do t stress over it

@kat92 It was an observation. I work in a job where I have to deal with people in many professions and the people I interact with who are the most stressed over the slightest, simplest thing work in (or are studying to work in) psychotherapy.
