To put DD to sleep on her tummy?

She is nearly 5 months old, and ever since she became proficient at rolling from her back to her tummy a few weeks ago she has rolled herself onto her tummy to sleep.

The issue is that at night time she sleeps in a 'next to me' cot attached to the side of my bed. If she rolls herself over once I have laid her to sleep on her back she ends up lying over the join between her mattress and mine. I've stuffed that gap as much as possible, but is still a small gap. If I lie her straight onto tummy I can put her down in the middle of her own mattress.

If she can roll herself then I think it should be fine

TeddyBeans · 05/09/2020 21:53

Yup as soon as they're able to roll you can put them down on their tummy. DS slept so much better when he was able to tummy sleep

By 5 months they are pretty robust. Can she confidently lift her head up? If so, I'd say it's fine.

Mamagotskills · 05/09/2020 22:12

As long as she can roll independently it’s fine

Settleandcalm · 05/09/2020 22:14

Can she roll front to back or only back to front? Think that would be the decider for me.

If she can easily roll then she should be fine.

Well she's sleeping on her tummy whether you put her there or not. So you might as well put he there.

Put the side of the cot up?

KitKatastrophe · 05/09/2020 22:34

My daughter is the same age, has been rolling for weeks and sleeps on her tummy. I put her down to sleep on her tummy now. Otherwise she just rolls over and ends up looking really uncomfortably jammed against the side of the cot.

Another option is to put the side up on the next to me crib so there is no gap she can roll into. I think you're supposed to do that when they start rolling anyway?

But actually I would be putting the side of the cot up as others have said so she can't roll onto a soft pillow or duvet
