AIBU to think the sacconejolys are not good role models?

A friend recommended the Saccone Joly channel now that I've had DS as I said im quite enjoying some parenting instagrammers at the moment

I'm so confused by their appeal and the fact that people seem to have them on a pedestal as amazing parents. Is it me or are some of their parenting tactics a bit questionable?

Apologies if this is done to death I used the search bar and couldn't find an existing thread. The instagrammers I tend to follow don't show their actual kids much but are more about food recipes and organisational hacks or handy products that save time but this channel seems to be totally about the kids and filming every second of their lives including seizures, going to the toilet etc...I didn't think that was allowed legally now or am I mistaken?

It just surprises me again and again the people that have made money from 'content' online. I know it's horses for courses and some people will love what others hate but it makes.me feel a bit uncomfortable.

And no I won't be watching again before anyone says don't like don't watch.

No they’re awful I had to stop watching. I don’t know how they’re still going.

Any Youtubers or Instagrammers that document every aspect of their child’s life , including tantrums / toileting/ etc give me rage as I don’t think it’s fair for children to have that in the public domain without their consent. At all. But lots will no doubt disagree with me and come and tell me how they find it helpful / inspirational etc etc

SachaStark · 05/09/2020 21:43

They’re awful people, especially him.

To me, the most reprehensible thing, is that nobody holds them to account for the use of their children in creating their “content”.

When children work professionally on film sets, there are strict laws in place regarding how many minutes they can film for before a break, how much time needs to be reserved for education, and where their money that they earn needs to be saved.

The trouble with the nature of these “lifestyle vloggers” is that there is no holding them to account for any of this. Because the filming happens in their own homes, nobody is there to ensure that the children aren’t spending too much time working on film, or that their parents are giving them fair payment for their participation.

It’s all very shady. It would be interesting to see whether this will change with the next generation of vloggers’ children.

musicinspring1 · 05/09/2020 21:51

It’s made me angry just discussing it on here 😂 but I agree it’s shady to use children to create content and for advertising etc when they don’t have any say in it and like pp says they don’t have to abide by any industry guidelines for child working

Crazyoldmaurice · 05/09/2020 21:56

Cant stand them. Read up on the "cold showers" they would punish their kids with. They portray a loving family image but deep down it's all about the money for them, theres nothing sacred.

Createausername · 05/09/2020 21:58

I think I’m clearly going to be in the minority here but I really like them and if all the you tubers I watch I find them the most genuine

I think they get a hard time because they’ve been so successful and managed to do what they do at the exact point it was most lucrative and they have got a really good lifestyle from it. That causes resentment and people latch on to their children being shown a lot and use that as the point to criticise them on.

From what I’ve seen the kids seem well balanced and well behaved they don’t seem spoilt.
I find Anna a very good role model she talks a lot about self esteem and her eating problems and gives some good advice. She seems honest.
Jonathan seems absolutely fine and they seem to have a good relationship. People can be very quick to be negative and I think it’s unfair they are I suppose just earning a living and have been lucky they chose something that’s made them a lot of money

Createausername · 05/09/2020 22:01

If you’re going to read up on the cold showers issue perhaps also look up their videos and response to this as it wasn’t then doing anything wrong at all.
There are 2 sides to everything and false accusations of cruelty can be serious and damaging - One sided speculation can cause a lot of problems

Hi, you’re actually looking for a gossip forum like the scum that is Tattle, and not here. Thanks

EsmeeMerlin · 05/09/2020 23:34

I don’t really watch them but one video did make me question their priorities as parents.

Their youngest daughter was ill and had a febrile convulsion. They called NHS 111 and recorded the call, they also filmed her after visiting the hospital and used the incident in the title of the video as click bait.

I just couldn’t imagine myself worrying about a sick child but picking up the video camera first before I called for medical advice and then filming my sick child.

kidsrNOTcontent · 31/03/2022 01:44

#children are NOT content and NOT for clout and earnings for parents

kizzywizz · 31/03/2022 09:11

If you think the SJ family is bad, try the Ingham Family, they put their children in physical danger many times, and nothing gets done.

kidsrNOTcontent · 31/03/2022 09:22

Keep going to children's services such as front door children's services and local council social workers and file reports with police

SmileLady · 06/02/2024 18:19

I recently came across this family- are they still popular?
