To hope that pubs keep their ordering apps

I am loving being able to order drinks from an app and have them bring them out to the table.

Less stressful, no “who’s going to the bar”, easy to choose a bottle of wine without worrying if you’ve accidentally picked the £30 bottle by accident etc.

You can actually look at the drink menu properly rather than try too look into the fridge or whatever, I they it is a win win.

They won't need that many more staff as they'll have less people wanting served at the bar so some of those staff can be used for table service.

Of course! The people ordering from the app will be people who would otherwise be at the bar so the bar will be quieter.

Personally, as a short woman, I hate having to stand at the bar trying to order. I get squished lots. Table service is the dream realised! Grin

I'm clearly in the minority here but I haven't had a single good app ordering experience during this tbh. Maybe the places I went to just use really shit apps but it has been so, so stressful. We walked out of one place after we had both tried to download the app on our phones then kept trying to order but it kept crashing at the payment stage and then telling us our details were incorrect.
It was just crap and eventually we had a drink after 35 min but we only had 45 min spare to be there.

I think smaller independents who don't have a massive budget to spend on this stuff will struggle as people will just get frustrated and not return if they have a bad experience with ordering.

I'm the same. I hate standing at the bar. I'm also very quietly spoken (and don't have a local accent) so often feel like I'm yelling at people just trying to order.

It's also great if you go in somewhere alone. One of our local pubs has had an app for a while and it's great if you go in yourself. If you want a second drink, or another drink while you are eating, you don't have that whole worry of leaving enough stuff at the table to show it's taken, but not leaving anything pinchable (and I also sometimes worry about taking stuff to the bar as it makes me feel like I'm yelling at the tables around me "I don't trust you not to steal").

Makes life much easier for me when I am out with Ds. He can’t be left at a table alone while I go and order so it’s much easier than having to take him with me

@Juanmorebeer if there’s not already, I imagine someone will come up with a “white label” type app that smaller pubs can use.

I haven’t been to a pub that’s had an ordering app yet! Our Wetherspoons does, I think. The rest are sort of country pubs, and someone visits you when you’ve been seated to take your order, wearing a mask.

I don’t mind the table service but I also quite like going to the bar, so I won’t mind that coming back too.
