In thinking this is a suitable lunch box for one year old

my one year old goes to nursery four days a week and instead of letting them provide a snack and meal I provide these for her. She gets either a small sandwhich made from one small toasties sized slice of bread with cheese or ham or a tin of soup that lasts two days. A banana for her afternoon snack, a yoghurt, four or five strawverries or a couple of grapes, five or six organic crisps and sometimes a banana wafer.

You mention grapes in your OP, please don't think I am having a go at you but even if you chop them up really small, they can still be a choking hazard.

I wouldn't bother with tinned soup as it's not healthy. Just give her a decent ham or cheese sandwich and some fruit each day. I don't see the point of giving banana wafers or baby crisps either. They are junk food marketed to parents. They don't contain anything healthy, are expensive, and are just going to give your baby a taste for junk food. Fine (although pointless) for occasional use but daft to give them daily. I wouldn't worry about veg either as long as she has fruit at nursery, as she obviously eats healthy dinners at home.

Any food can be a choking hazard to any age of person. A chopped up grape is no riskier than anything else. At nursery they sit down to eat and are supervised so it's probably as safe as eating gets really

I don’t think soup is a reasonable food to give a one year old in a nursery setting. Surely she won’t be able to feed herself with soup. Will the staff sit and feed her the soup?

Dd1 used to have half a sandwich, a yoghurt and some fruit. Dd2 had a whole sandwich, a yoghurt, fruit, veg sticks with houmous and a small block of cheese.

It sounds like enough if she's not eating it and still asking for more.

You could also try adding in things with more protein. As she gets bigger and more mobile, she'll probably need this. Cocktail sausages, quiche (cold, you can just cut it from the fridge, they can heat if they want), filled pasta like tortelloni (you can buy it fresh from the store, it's usually about a quid a packet at Tesco) and top with a bit of cheese, cold homemade pizza cut into strips (make it on a muffin), hummus and cheese with rice or oatcakes is good.

The only comment I would make is to stop wasting your money on banana wafers. They taste of literally nothing (yes i tasted one!), are so expensive, dont have much nutritional value or filling power. 16 calories per pack for 30p why bother 🤣

But it sounds like shes got enough if she is eating most of it and satisfied. My daughter would have eaten nowhere near that amount at age 13 months but different children are different and if shes growing and happy, shes fine.

I would say its probably best to avoid processed food like sausages, quiche or filled pasta to be honest until she is much older. Homemade versions would be fine as they would contain far less salt and preservative.

@eatsleepread

Yes, don't worry, it all sounds suitably virtuous.
Why say anything if you can’t be nice?! GrinGrinGrin

@ConfusedBec

I'm only asking this because im a first time mum and worried this is too little or too much
I feel a cow now. What you pack sounds good. And as pp have said maybe add some protein. Flowers
