Revenge dinner!

Yarboosucks · 04/09/2020 19:25

I cook dinner every night. Never the same meal twice in a week, cook different world cuisines.

No one other than me likes meatloaf. I love it. I have made meatloaf tonight and there is an air of general disappointment in the house.

IABU to think, great all the more for me!! ?

Does anyone else cook revenge meals, if so what?

Prawn and mushroom curry is my favourite revenge dinner. DH hates prawns and mushrooms.

Coffeecak3 · 04/09/2020 21:41

@IndieTara I make meatloaf with beef, onion, tomato paste, oregano, salt and pepper and an egg to bind. Really easy and very tasty.

cherrybakewellll · 04/09/2020 21:42

I'm vegetarian. Husband is a fierce carnivore. Need I say more?

SeaToSki · 04/09/2020 21:45

My DH hates fish, tomatoes and sweetcorn. I might need to dream up a new dish for next time he annoys me. I love all of them and I love your idea of revenge. After all revenge is a dish best eaten cold (or actually hot but mentally cold 😁)

No, life's too short.

No, life's too short.

I agree.

XingMing · 04/09/2020 21:54

If I am cooking for revenge, all I have to do is put vinegar or lemon in it. DH hates both.

honeygirlz · 04/09/2020 21:55

@Sparklfairy

Bit extreme and not quite the same but in my early 20s I cooked for my arse of an abusive boyfriend. We both liked spicy food but he was fiercely competitive as well as misogynistic and would refuse to be 'beaten' by a girl in the spicy food stakes. I embraced this and made his jerk pork wraps extra spicy without him knowing.

He spent the night shitting himself a new arsehole.

Does that count as a revenge dinner? Smile

Definitely! 👍🏼

No, life's too short.
It doesn’t have affect OP’s life, she loves meatloaf.
Mothership4two · 04/09/2020 21:59

It's not really revenge, just putting yourself first occasionally. I am a veggie and tend to cook separately from rest of family, but usually weekly make a veggie meal for us all. DH always makes funny comments about it. Hmm

av3nturin3 · 04/09/2020 22:07

@IndieTara

I've never had meatloaf but would love to have a go at it. Does anyone have a recipe without any type of pork in it?
The pork is included partly for the fat content, so that the cooked meatloaf is moist. You can substitute with fatty veal/ lamb/ mutton/ goat mince, but maybe not use the full amount as these options are more strongly flavoured.

When I roast a chicken the oysters are mine!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/09/2020 22:13

Holy forking shirt balls, some of my childhood meals have suddenly made sense. Shock Particularly the cod's roe fish cakes, my Mum must have pretty pissed off when she made those.

Yes always
Bettercallsaul1 · 04/09/2020 22:30

Isn’t revenge a dish best served cold? It would have to be salad, followed by ice cream.

Jux · 04/09/2020 22:46

My true Dinner of Revenge would be plain pasta with a bit of ground black pepper (maybe) and (again maybe) grated cheese on top. With butter. Pasta would be cold. Well, it would be Revenge for dh; dd would be quite happy with it.

I'm going to have to think of a good Dinner of Revenge for dd. Just in case. Grin

Ooooh I haven't had meatloaf since I was a kid but I used to love it. Must look up that recipe. I mostly cook things that I know everyone will like but I do occasionally pick something for myself. I don't care what anyone else thinks, they're lucky to get a meal put in front of them every night!

ememem84 · 04/09/2020 23:08

Oh meatloaf. I haven’t eaten that for so so long. That’s Sunday sorted. Thanks op

Yarboosucks · 05/09/2020 03:44

Well they got me. they bloody well loved it! They did laugh a lot at what my DS called a "lump on a plate".

I can't even serve it cold as my DS has a thang for cold food and has saved a bit for breakfast.

Someone up stream mentioned swedish au pairs... Beetroot in meat loaf is delicious (same for meat balls or patties). My swedish BF makes then for me.

Another person in the village gave me some advice. When you make the dinner do you always give the best chop etc to your husband then the children then have what’s left? I give the best bits to the children and me and give dp what's left. They're all under 5 so can't cook. He's an adult and "can't cook" (anyone who can read can cook!) He can have the best bits when he cooks!!
Yep that was me.

My aunty is famous for her pedigree chum pie, my uncle's favourite when he gets back steaming drunk from a cricket do Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/09/2020 13:58

I once saw a brief exchange of glances between DP and DD as I plonked it on the table.
They.Never.Said.A.Word.

At least you know that even though they are daft, they aren't stupid . . .

VettiyaIruken · 06/09/2020 14:02

I don't do revenge cooking but I do make sure I get my 'turn' .
For years I made meals with beef, lamb, mince etc because my husband and kids love it.
I prefer fish. Salmon and plaice being my favourites.

One day as I was cooking yet another cottage pie I thought to myself why the hell am I being such a martyr? I'm a twat!

We now have fish twice a week and veggie twice a week.
