Clue App - experiences?

Bunnmasams · 04/09/2020 11:11

I downloaded the Clue App 3 days ago.
I added in my date of birth and when myast period was. It didn't ask me how long my cycle usually is. It is usyally 29 days, but it has automatically put me down as 33 days but I don't know how to change it.

Also, my period last came on the 29th July, it still hasnt come. But for the past 3 days it says "period starts tomorrow" but tomorrow never comes as the next day it still says "period starts tomorrow"

Am I using it wrong?

I don’t use clue anymore as they support TWAW but that sounds about right

It will keep saying period arrives tomorrow until you log the period. Then it will automatically update your cycle. The more you use it the more accurate it gets

ellenpartridge · 04/09/2020 11:31

Clue is completely useless. It's ok if you just want a place to log when your period starts but for TTC its predictions are not reliable or really based on anything substantive

MildDrPepperAddiction · 04/09/2020 11:38

I use clue and want to move away from it. It's crap for a start and the twaw nonsense just confirms that I don't want t use it. Any suggestions for good alternative apps?

Soubriquet · 04/09/2020 11:43

I use Flo which seems to work quite nicely but in use it just to track my periods not TTC

Basillify · 04/09/2020 11:48

Accuracy does seem to improve with each cycle. If you log your next cycle when it starts, the future dates will automatically update and cycle duration is recalculated. Have used it for years and it's pretty accurate now. Never used it for conception purposes though so can't comment on that.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 04/09/2020 12:41

What's TWAW?

I've been using it for the past three months but I'm now looking for something else. Same as you, it said my period was due a week ago but for every date you don't input your period it shifts the start date AND your previous ovulation date. Meaning, according to Clue, my period isn't actually late but my cycle has extended this month.

I was using it for some sort of awareness of my ovulation date, but given it moves it around it's not at all helpful!

aLilNonnyMouse · 04/09/2020 12:50

It learns your cycle over time, so it will be a bit dodgy for the first month or two. I've been using it for 2 years now and it's very accurate for me.

It also helped me track some weird symptoms I was getting (what I thought was) randomly. Turns out they are ovulation symptoms! I really recommend it.

It shouldn't be moving your start date - I've never seen it do that. But it should be moving your ovulation date if your period is late. The luteal phase (the time from ovulation to your period cycle) is the part of the cycle that should never change. Periods being late are because ovulation happened late for some reason or other.
toomanyspiderplants · 04/09/2020 12:57

It used to be ok...but now every time I open it, it defaults to 2012. also ir used to show me my heavy days ata glance now it doesnt. also I just go und out from this thread that it supports TWAW. .So that's me done with it

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 04/09/2020 14:06

@aLilNonnyMouse It's definitely moved both, a week ago it said I ovulated 14.08 and period due 29.08. Now it says I ovulated 22.08 and that my period will start tomorrow, rather than last Saturday as originally predicted. It's moved my period to 'tomorrow' every day. Perhaps I need to use it for a little longer before casting judgment, it's just I used an app yonks ago that seemed much more reliable but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called!

yelyah22 · 04/09/2020 14:26

I've been using it to track my PMT as I've got the coil and I don't get any bleed, and I've found it great - I've been using it for years now and it's always been bang on accurate!

You do have to be really good at logging everything initially though, so it can learn. I'm also really pleased they support trans women, that's another tick in my book.

Soubriquet · 04/09/2020 14:27

TWAW = trans women are women

BiBabbles · 04/09/2020 14:36

Any suggestions for good alternative apps?

FitWoman (free app) is good for recording cycles, some basic symptoms (has about 20 options all listed on one page), activity level (low, medium, high) and has a notes section to add extra information. It gives health information and recommendations according to what phase of your cycle you're in. Other than wanting the symptom page a bit more organized, it's my favourite. While it keeps the calendar to look back on, it doesn't create the charst and analysis data of Clue and other apps which is probably why it also doesn't freak out if you forget it for a bit like some other apps. You just restart when your cycle does and it goes back in step.

Some like MyFlo (paid app) because you can also track hot flushes and menopausal symptoms alongside menstrual ones, but it, Eve (a free app mainly for tracking periods, and sex-related things - has a lot of ads too), and many others tend to be harder to get back on track if you forget it for bit and you end up with weird information. These apps all need a 'restart data for forgetfulness' option...

NamedyChangedy · 04/09/2020 15:14

I love it. I have very heavy, painful periods so it's great to know when to expect them so I can plan around them. I haven't come into contact with any TWAW messaging as I just use the calendar.

morefun · 04/09/2020 18:50

I use it but not TTC. It's good for logging symptoms etc, been using it for years!

CastleCrasher · 04/09/2020 18:53

Haven't used it, but have used woman log (free) for years. Both for tracking and TTC, found it very good

aLilNonnyMouse · 05/09/2020 00:13

AtLeastThreeDrinks Well yes, that's how it works. If your cycle is randomly late, it will move it to "tomorrow" until it actually comes. It will then use the data from previous cycles to predict what the next one is likely to be. If this is your first month it knows nothing about you so it's waiting for you to tell it.

It's not psychic - It can't tell when your period will come with no data. Any app would do the exact same thing.

Wait at least one full cycle before you judge it.

AmazingAardvark · 05/09/2020 02:01

I’ve been using Clue for years and find it good for keeping track of periods and logging symptoms. As others have pointed out, you do need to put in a couple of months data.
“Hormone horoscope” app is good too if you want to understand how your cycle might be affecting your mood, etc.

Sniv · 05/09/2020 05:18

I've used Clue for years. I have to re-download it every time I get a new phone and it takes a few months to catch on, but it quickly becomes pretty accurate. I have also used it to track other (non-period related) symptoms, which has been helpful.

I also like the clean, clear presentation. I came across some pretty twee apps before Clue - one even had a bare branch on the front screen that bust into blossom during ovulation. No thanks.

TeddyIsaHe · 05/09/2020 05:25

Do you have an IPhone? It has a cycle tracker in the health app and I’ve found it really good once in input a couple of cycles. Has predicted my periods to the day for 4 months now.

LittleGungHo · 05/09/2020 05:51

I logged in Clue for 18 months and the first month we TTC we had sex a couple of times during the 'fertile window' and I am pregnant. The app was really go for me. No glitches in 18 months

TheHappyHerbivore · 05/09/2020 08:08

I use a different app but it was the same at the start - it takes a few cycles of logging exactly when your period comes for it to start being accurate. Just log when your period does start. Next month it will make a prediction but it might not be right yet.

Disappointedkoala · 05/09/2020 08:14

I've used it for years - it gets better the more cycles you log on it. I've deliberately conceived twice using it and also used to know when to avoid getting pregnant (though it wouldn't have been the end of the world if I had so no lectures please!).

RoseGoldEagle · 05/09/2020 08:21

I haven’t used Clue, but used both Glow and Fertility Friend simultaneously when I was TTC. Glow was always a bit out for me, but FF was always spot-on. When we conceived our third child we only had sex once that month, Glow claimed there was a zero chance of pregnancy that day whereas FF listed it as one of my fertile days (it just happened to be the only day we were both around at the same time!), this was after using both for years for my precious two kids so would have expected both to be accurate by then.

RoseGoldEagle · 05/09/2020 08:26

Previous not precious!
