Dd 5 appears really snotty. She does suffer from hayfever but this seems worse than usual. Is it normal to suffer from hayfever in September as met office says pollen is low??

Anyway, it does have a cold what the hell do I do? She's due back school next week. Do schools want snotty kids in if they haven't got a cough and/or fever? She has good respiratory hygiene but I have no idea 🤷‍♀️ at the minute it is just a snotty nose but generally if and when she does get a cold she gets a cough also.

Can't hell think this will be a long a** winter with covid on top of normal coughs/colds, flu, bugs etc.

My niece started school two weeks ago and loads of the children have colds, its normal going into autumn! Her school actually sent out emails saying that its fine to send children with colds to school, as long as she feels well enough id send her to school Smile

Thank you. It's just the time of year isn't. Dread. Fingers crossed she won't get a cough with it!

Guidelines say it’s fine to send children to school with a cold.

contrmary · 04/09/2020 08:25

I'd keep her home. She could have symptomless Covid-19 as well as an entirely separate cold infection. If so the cough from the cold will spread the Covid-19.

You know where you child has been, has she been in close contact with anyone outside your family? Surely a 2 year old is vanishingly unlikely to have anything other than a cold unless you've been playing fast and lose with your behaviours.

My daughters nursery have said we arent to send children in if they are Ill in the slightest.
So not sure they will have any children at all this winter HmmGrin

SubordinateThatClause · 04/09/2020 08:27

This is so hard isn't it? Given that so many children have very mild Covid symptoms, I would ask the school what they want you to do.

starlet14 · 04/09/2020 08:33

Thanks all. I will ask the school. I know before lockdown they said it's fine for children to go in with runny noses. Dd actually did have a cold in March and went in! But obviously that could have changed. We haven't really been anywhere and where we have been we've social distanced, gone out at quiet times, washed hands, masks etc so it's unlikely to be covid tbh but there's still a risk regardless!
