To think tonight of all nights

I've been super calm today. Kept my mind busy as dd goes back to school tomorrow. So we went rock hunting. Had a roast dinner for tea. I've been really positive about tomorrow. Got her bathed. Done pack up. Story. Said good night. She must have drank her cup of water really fast as she called through and said uh oh mummy I've just been sick on my bed.

I went through and with that she hurled three more times allover her bed. She hadn't mentioned feeling unwell. She said she drank the water fast. She has done this in the past with milkshake and orange squash. She has done it at least 4-5 times. But she hasn't done it for a year.

My partner said it's nerves and drinking too fast. But it was alot of sick so I'm on edge now.

There's no reason she should have a bug. We've not been anywhere but for walks alone. We've all eaten the same. She has been collecting ladybirds in the garden and putting them on a pile of leaves.

I don't want her to miss the first day back. What would you guys do based on if she's not sick again?

I've been really anxious lately and I've been so proud of myself this last few days. Can't believe our early Night has resulted in me washing bed sheets and my daughter laid on the sofa with a bucket!

That’s happened to me before about 5 times where I downed a glass of water quickly in a rush and then threw it all back up straight away

RedHelenB · 02/09/2020 20:48

The rule is usually a minimum of 24 hours after a bout of sickness for schools.

Gancanny · 02/09/2020 20:49

I'd keep her off for 48hrs as per NHS guidance, you don't know for sure it's not a bug and the other parents won't thank you for spreading it if it is.

MJMG2015 · 02/09/2020 20:49

Initially I'd keep her at home (as per the 48 hr rule in most schools)

...and I'd get her tested for Covid tomorrow if possible. Vomiting is a symptom
In children in particular.

Then obviously see from there.

Yes it's a shame to miss the first days back, but better that than make anyone else sick bug or COVID.

ilikebooksandplants · 02/09/2020 20:50

Please don’t send your vomiting child into school - NHS states it should be 48 hours after being sick. Teachers have enough illness to be looking out for at the moment, without you adding to it.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 02/09/2020 20:50

I would keep an eye on her, and if there's no more vomiting, she doesn't have a temperature, and she seems well in the morning I'd probably send her in but be easily contactable by phone.

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 02/09/2020 20:50

I also throw up when I drink too fast! I would keep an eye on her. If she throws up more & or has a temperature, keep her off. Otherwise send her in if its just a one off.

WhoAmIWhoAreYou · 02/09/2020 20:51

Funny that we both said the same thing.
KingaRoo · 02/09/2020 20:52

Keep her off for 48 hrs. Its disappointing but better than potentially infecting a whole load of other people. Please don't be selfish.

cardibach · 02/09/2020 20:53

@DanielRicciardosSmile and @WhoAmIWhoAreYou are prime examples of why bugs move quickly though schools. Follow the damn guidance for sickness and keep your children off for 48 hours.

stophuggingme · 02/09/2020 20:54

You can’t send her to school
Hope she’s ok and not sick again but you need to leave it a day or two so until next week

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/09/2020 20:54

Get a covid test?!! Really, for vommiting??!

Lipz · 02/09/2020 20:55

If she's sitting with a bucket now then she's more on the side of unwell rather than drinking fast. Drinking fast wouldn't be projectile vomiting numerous times. She could have had an upset stomach and the drink helped bring it up. I'd wait 48hrs from last vomiting before sending her in.

Sleepysloth32 · 02/09/2020 20:56

Thanks everyone.

The buckets for my peace of mind. She said she feels fine and it was just the water. .
Don't worry I'm not one of those parents. I tend to be over cautious!

Agree...

This is why my dd is home and not enjoying her first week back at school. Because people ignore these things and send sick children in.

molifly14 · 02/09/2020 20:59

If she's got a bucket does that mean she's feeling ill? If she's feeling ill then keep her off but if she's feeling fine just drank too much send her in

MarcelineMissouri · 02/09/2020 20:59

She’s been sick and you can’t be sure why. You will have to keep her off for 48 hours after the last vomit.

mrsknottschicken · 02/09/2020 21:08

I can’t believe people are suggesting sending her in. I hope none of you are parents to kids that go to my kid’s school. I will never forget the summer that I lost 4 days’ work (as a self-employed person), a childminder had to close down for a few days and every single family using that childminder was left without childcare as a result. I was lucky that my child didn’t get sick - almost all of the others did - but I still lost income as a result of one selfish person who had to subsequently be reminded of the childminder’s sickness policy. Please don’t send her in! Hope she is okay, OP.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 02/09/2020 21:12

You definitely need to keep her off for 48 hours. No question really. You have done very well by her so far. It won’t be a big deal if you don’t make it one.

stovetopespresso · 02/09/2020 21:30

agree re not sending sick kids in but even I gulped some water yesterday and had a ... moment...

reflux is different from a bug and op its up to your judgement 100%. not a reason to get a covid test though, am sure they would tell you that if you asked them

Sleepysloth32 · 03/09/2020 06:33

Thanks. It was definitely the water. Not a big and she instantly felt better after and claimed she felt fine before. I will call the school and respect whatever they decide. Thank you 😊

Bug!

Bunkumum · 03/09/2020 06:36

School will say see you on Monday. You have no idea why she has been sick. You can guess it’s the water but you don’t know for a fact. So just keep her off.

This!

Chairbear · 03/09/2020 06:46

Just send her in on Monday, it probably was the water, but to be on the safe side.
