To not pay tiler until he’s fixed a botched job?

We’ve had our bathroom tiled over the last few days and the majority of the tiling is to a good standard. However, one section is absolutely horrific, big gaps, bits of trim cobbled together, tiles really sloping etc. I’m thinking of telling him I will only pay once it’s fixed. AIBU?

He’s not grouted any of it so I can actually see he had used the proper adhesive (grey) through the gaps on the 3 other walls and has used grout (white) only on the crap wall. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt and am assuming he ran out rather than half-inched it for another job, but it begs the question, why did he not ask me to get more??

That’s a relief. Though if he hasn’t grouted any of it make sure you don’t pay him 75% of the job if he comes back and asks you to make good on your offer.

Do NOT pay** him until the work is done to a good standard, i've been through hell recently getting a workman to come back and fix a bad job (he was a cowboy and it turns out his reviews are fake/from family and friends)

He sounds like a right dickhead. Do not pay him.
