To think c section pain should not last forever?

Hi all,
So I had an emergency c section 19 weeks ago now and recovered ok I thought within about 8/9 weeks. I started to exercise again and have in the last 4 weeks or so taken up doing ab exercises again eg. Sit ups, planks etc. I then started to feel a bit more pain generally around my scar area when moving in a certain way or picking up heavy objects.
Not enough pain for it to affect my day to day life but enough to make me stop exercising for a while. This didn’t make the pain go away, it just got slightly less but gets worse when I do any slight exercise like walking.
Anyway, I went to the GP about it last week and she was very dismissive, basically said that it’s still quite early after the birth and I’m likely to feel pain forever basically as the stomach will never completely go back to normal. She said she had her son by C section 11 years ago and still gets twinges of pain now. She also said I was fine to continue to exercise, I would just have to accept that it is going to hurt.
Has anybody else experienced this? Will it last forever?

I had an EMCS and like you, walked out of hospital 24 hours later with not even a leaflet on wound care!

I'm almost 15 months on and still suffer from some sharp pain in one particular place after intense exercise. I believe that it's a combination of a weak pelvic floor/core that I am still rebuilding and also scar tissue.

I follow Hannahjohnsontherapies on insta - she specialises in C Section massage therapy. i went on one of her free sessions over lockdown and found it very very useful - I now do daily massage of my scar and the surrounding area.

I went to a postnatal exercise class who said no crunches. Plank ok (probably start on your knees and graduate up) and also suppline extensions. Lots out there if you have a google.

It's a major operation, go easy on yourself. I doubt I've attempted a full sit up since.

I still get twinges on mine on one side 10 years later... you’re probably going too much too soon. Pain is there to remind you that your body wants you to stop doing something.

I asked my GP at my 6 week check up if I should avoid any specific exercises, he said no all are fine Hmm

I still have random twinges and pains and I had my section in March. I can’t work out what triggers it though, my only guess is that it is because it’s major surgery and 7 layers aren’t going to heal quickly 🤷‍♀️

Find a different doctor. I've had 2 sections and felt no pain at all. Yes, I have the overhang but there you go.

managedmis · 02/09/2020 15:29

Yeah, I wouldn't be doing sit ups though.

This is quite involved but you might find it helpful

I think it's different for every woman, you know your body best and if something feels uncomfortable/is giving you pain then listen to your body. I had an em C section 6 years ago next month and every so often I still get a searing pain across my scar.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 02/09/2020 17:17

I've had 2 sections in 5 years, last one 2 years ago. I still get some pain particularly when I'm ovulating or have my period. At my second C section I was told I had extra scar tissue which had adhered to some internal organs, not serious but likely to cause a pulling or tight sensation.

Itsrainingatlast · 02/09/2020 17:34

I’ve had 2; last one nearly 11 years ago, and I still get occasional twinges...not painful, but if I stretch in a particular way, I can feel my scar pull.
However, it will get better, but it takes time and you will get your abs back eventually...my core is now stronger and more toned than it ever was pre-babies!
