How to make money from home ASAP

AppleCinnamonSlice · 01/09/2020 22:36

Sorry not an aibu, posting for traffic.

I’m in a very bad financial situation and need to pull myself out of it as soon as possible. Can anyone give me some realistic ideas/links for how I can make money working from home during school hours ?

I can only work from home during the day because of my current situation. Any suggestions or links welcome please.

Definitely avoid any mlms. 99% of people who get involved lose money.
Good luck in finding something that works.

Norma27 · 02/09/2020 08:13

@Nic1701 I would also love to know what you do which is so successful hun.

YinuCeatleAyru · 02/09/2020 08:28

"selling another companies products from home" if it wasn't a scam, it would be a salaried position for that company not an "own business". but the umbrella company is a thinly concealed front for a ponzi-like scheme because the commission for the frontline selling is fairly low, and higher returns are promised if you recruit more front-line sellers and you will then get a cut of their commission. it remains just about legal because the existence of the "product" means it doesn't fulfill the definition of a pyramid scheme (which would be illegal). as a new recruit you will only actually start making money once once the recruits that your own recruits get on board start selling, until then you will lose money every month and be encouraged to 'fake it till you make it' eg by claiming you are making £1k per month when it's actually about £100.

lovelemoncurd · 02/09/2020 08:28

@AppleCinnamonSlice what kind of 'very bad financial situation' are we talking here? It may be you need Citizens Advice rather than the odd tip about selling some old clothes!

Pumpkinnose · 02/09/2020 08:30

Hope you manage to sort yourself but can you really only stick to school hours? Might be worth thinking out the box here. School hours work is highly sought after.

AppleCinnamonSlice · 02/09/2020 08:39

Unfortunately I have zero wraparound care options at the moment so it has to be school hours. (Add in the fact my son has ASD and it complicates childcare)

It’s a financial mess of my own making - like many people I lost my part time job in March, and a combination of burying my head in the sand, trying to ‘win’ money and keeping on borrowing money has left me 5000 grand in debt, which may not be much to some but right now it feels massive as I have no way of making money .

Citizens advice bureau or look on MoneySavingExpert. Lots of advice and help out there.

@EmmaGrundyForPM that's exactly what I was hinting at. MLMs are horrible and they prey on people in difficult financial situations like OP, it would not be a surprise if someone saw an easy target. "PM me for details" is a common tactic, because on a public forum like mumsnet or facebook, other people will see and call out public comments which explain the business model / upline system.

For anyone who may be reading and thinking that this is scaremongering and MLMs are actually fine, please google the documentary "Betting on Zero" or the Poonique blog so that you can make an informed choice (to run away fast).

LonelyFromCorona · 02/09/2020 09:35

Onlyfans

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 02/09/2020 10:38

There's plenty you can do without getting your tits out on Onlyfans or selling your soul to MLMs.
I have had LOADS of really good stuff come through the £10 a day thread, in particular surveys which fit around your time, but if you need more then I'd second the call centre options. Also if you are well organised and have some admin experience, look into being a virtual PA. There's big demand at the moment with virtual working and it can be very flexible.

lovelemoncurd · 02/09/2020 10:41

@AppleCinnamonSlice I hope that's £5k in debt and not £5000 k as you say!!

Good that you stopped the gambling anyhow. £5k is manageable with the right mindset. Sort direct debits. Cancel anything you can. Write out a budget. Switch energy supplier etc. Cheap food options Lidl etc. I'm sure you've done all this anyway. Have you a room you can rent out? Airbnb?

noctu · 02/09/2020 10:58

Another (another!) vote for matched betting. Team Profit is a great place to start. I've made £9k in a year.

Yoholyolo · 02/09/2020 11:54

Don't go gambling if you know you have a gambling problem.
Don't touch any of the MLM stuff, it's a different kind ogf gambling with much lower odds and destroys your friends and family networks.

If you aren't disabled, it could be worth looking to see if you can get school hours friendly, care or cleaning shifts. Both are recruiting in many places. (appreciate the ASD situation may make this feel difficult, but it might be workable)
This again might not be doable with your child, but if they sleep well, any chance a single mum might bed down at yours a few nights a week for reasonable contribution while you do a night shift?

TimetohittheroadJack · 02/09/2020 12:03

Matched betting requires a fair amount of spare cash to lay bets so Id think it’s not the answer for the OP.

The OP has already said that she is now in debt because of matched betting.
northbacchus · 02/09/2020 12:20

Where did the OP say they were in debt due to matched betting?

runninguphills · 02/09/2020 12:34

I rent my spare room on Airbnb and make a very surprising amount of money.

Making stuff at home probably is by great for you as you do have to invest in supplies.

Cleaning would dwindle that 5k down very quickly - also try setting up an ironing service.

WinterBerry7 · 02/09/2020 12:35

@AppleCinnamonSlice

Brilliant ideas here, thank you all!

Need to avoid betting, unfortunately it was starting matched betting and then my own foolishness/greed that got me in this mess.

Could you file for bankruptcy (if you have no assets like a house, car etc)? Both my sisters have done it. I read an article that said it's shocking how many people don't file for it when they should.

Another one to say do not get sucked into an MLM I know so many people that have and I just watch as they quickly annoy everyone with their constant fake life posts.

worriedandannoyed · 02/09/2020 13:10

I've just seen you can do payroll. Because of the furlough scheme payroll administrators are run off their feet at the moment, see if there's any part time work from home jobs in that area. Although the scheme will end soon so might only be temporary

TheGreatWave · 02/09/2020 13:47

OP I do not know your situation so I apologise if some of all of this isn't relevant.

Firstly are you claiming all the benefits you may be entitled to?

Secondly you need to make sure the money you have is working best for you. Do a detailed budget, make sure you are not paying out for things you don't use, can your electric /gas/ TV / broadband etc be moved elsewhere. Mobile phones - are you tied in contracts, if not consider sim only deals.

What is your debt spread across? Can you set payment plans up on any? Things like mortgage/ rent and council tax need first attention as they have significant consequences. Then look at where other debts are, if you can't move them from cc etc look at the ones with the highest interest rates to be paying off first.

Good luck.
