Does anyone know how to report companies in America

MIL fell for a Facebook advert selling dresses for children and bought one for each of my DC. Only after she had bought and paid for them did she get a receipt saying they would be at least 45 working days.

Well, that was March, and guess what, nothing! No response to emails and they have blocked all commenting on social media.

She didn’t look for any online reviews but when I did, I saw hundreds of complaints about the exact same thing. They are still advertising away on Facebook and other places, taking people’s money, and then cannot be contacted.

It is only $30, so not worth spending money to pursue, but I feel really strongly that they should not be allowed to get away with it! I have already reported to Facebook and BBB, which seemed to be like the American version of Trading Standards, but previous complaints to BBB show that the company isn’t registered with them and they can’t find any more about it.

Can anyone with any American or social media knowledge think of any other places this could be reported, or have I flogged the dead horse already, and they’ll just be able to carry on doing it? Angry

How did she pay?

childrensclothes · 01/09/2020 20:28

Credit card, and although she’s looking into it, I suspect 45 business days will be too late to claim, which is why they have said that, but honestly it’s more about seeing if there is anyone who’d look into it than getting it back. If it had been more money we would be more bothered about the refund of course. It’s just so wrong!

She should be able to do charge back on credit card.

Their consumer standards is much weaker than UK. Possibly nothing central & certainly what existed in past has been gutted under Baby Chump Administration. Have to pursue chargeback with credit card company, I suspect.

Thanks all.

It’s disappointing that Facebook continue to allow them to advertise and block comments, even though they have been reported. (Although I am not sure why I expected Facebook to give a stuff, perhaps IABU there!)

Go to BBB.org

That's Building Better Business for the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

@VeniVidiWeeWee the op said in her original post that she has already reported it to BBB.

Polnm · 01/09/2020 21:12

Do a chargeback, no time limit

Lindylooboo · 01/09/2020 21:13

You might be able to report a scam to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). I think you can do it online.

Oops. Sorry about that.
