Dressing gown

Maybe more WWYD but still, am I unreasonable to wear what I want at home without judgement?
My Stepdaughters maturnal Grandma likes to turn up at our house unannounced if no one answers the phone to her instantly. (DSD lives with us)
It's the 4th time she's commented on me answering the door wearing my dressing gown calling me lazy amongst other things but she says it all in a jokey way so I'm never sure how to answer.
I'm at the point that I dont even want to answer the door anymore, I have anxiety and she's making me feel self concious about it. Am I the only person who wears their dressing gown other than around bedtime? Would you just take it off before answering or would you tell her to get stuffed being so judgy?

@Biscuitbrew

She even made a snide comment when I had just got out of the shower and had a towel wrapped around my head! New door bell and special outfits by the door I think Grin
Save your money. Just get a "fuck off granny" sign instead Grin

Since having to work from home in March, I live in my dressing gown. It is so comfy and I want to be comfy in my own house.

I'd get a peep hole or a ring doorbell so you can check who is at the door. If it's her don't bother getting it, the cheeky bitch.

Pbbananabagel · 01/09/2020 15:42

Yes to the ballgown!
And if she comments you can say “well it’s obvious from the various remarks you’ve made that you expect one to be formally attired at all times.”

minnieok · 01/09/2020 15:45

I wouldn't wear mine unless I hadn't had my shower so unless it's before 10am I would be embarrassed to answer the door! If you are dressed take it off or I would have a cosy cardigan for daytime use

Couchbettato · 01/09/2020 15:47

Wear several layers of dressing gowns, and just say "Oh, sorry" and take the top layer off.

Oblomov20 · 01/09/2020 15:50

As you can tell from my MN Username, I am ALL about Dressing gowns. I love them, always have, and wear mine as much as is physically possible. I care not about answering the door to the postman in mine.

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 01/09/2020 15:51

In the winter I wear mine over my clothes all the time at home when it’s cold. Doesn’t that make it a house coat? Grin

pigsDOfly · 01/09/2020 16:02

I would never wear a dressing gown during the day. For me they're for when I'm first up and to have my breakfast in so if arrived at someone's house during the day and they were wearing a dressing gown I'd probably assume they were feeling a bit under the weather.

However, what you wear in your own house is absolutely nobody else's business and she's being bloody rude to turn up at your house uninvited and make snide comments about you.

If she's not even coming to visit her grand daughter, and if she were she should be doing it at a pre arranged time that's convenient to you or your partner, but just to be annoying why are you even opening the door to her?

Geppili · 01/09/2020 16:18

I think the refinement of one boob hanging out the dressing gown is better. Oh and make sure you have wild bed hair. Wink

Biscuitbrew · 01/09/2020 16:28

One boob out wins Grin Grin

I work from home and when she's turned up it's been around half 9, 10ish in the morning. I do usually have normal clothes underneath not that it should matter to her, if she was glamorous I might understand but she dresses like a farmer, she has no farm lol.

I open the door because she wouldnt stop, she'll come back later. Bit like the phone if we dont answer she turns up. I think I'll just have to tell her that she needs to stop turning up which wont go well but either that or she sees my boob!

Fit a spy hole in the door, if is Granny (whatever) shout through the letterbox something along the lines of...
"I'm just getting dressed, I'll be ready soon" and go and make a cup coffee and watch 'Houses Under the Hammer' occasionly shout towards the door "nearly done", "won't be long now", "just got to unjam this zip" etc.

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 01/09/2020 18:07

I have had my lovely fleece dressing gown since 2006. It is warm, it is comfortable, it is the perfect garment for leisure or study, and frankly, no-one will stop me wearing it unless they pull it off my stiffening corpse.

Ahem.

Yes, she's very rude, and clearly is not lucky enough to own a perfect dressing gown.

IlovecatsyesIdo · 01/09/2020 18:22

If I were you I’d buy some new dressing gowns to add to your collection! How about this Rocky one......might give some subtle hints you mean business!
YANBU - She sounds awful!
It’s your home your rules. Set your phones to do not disturb just for her number and install cctv so you know it’s her and ignore ignore ignore!

Dressing gown
Geppili · 01/09/2020 18:44

I want that Rocky dressing gown! It'd look gorgeous with one boob out!

lanthanum · 01/09/2020 18:46

Don't answer the door - next time she talks to you, if she complains, say that you were about to have a bath and you know she doesn't approve of answering the door in a dressing gown.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/09/2020 19:20

DH has nicked my dressing gown 😂 I live in kaftans when at home now...

willowmelangell · 01/09/2020 20:36

Chain on the door. Wear a tiara.

Biscuitbrew · 01/09/2020 21:46

I wish I could like some of your comments, you've made me feel loads better about it Smile
We're setting up a camera near our front door that will tell us who is outside without us even moving (for more than just this reason) but I'm going to have some fun with outfits just to turn this around from me being anxious about her turning up to being excited Grin
If she thinks a dressing gown is bad, she's seen nothing yet haha.

I've lived in either my pjs and baggy cardi or dressing gown for the past 6 months. All day everyday. She'd get bored of mentioning it to me 😄
