To morning after pill or not - EBF

Just looking for some advice on what some of you would do?

I had unprotected sex with my husband last night - a bit stupid but caught up in the moment. I have a four month old baby that I am exclusively breastfeeding. I’m not sure whether my periods have returned - I’ve had some light flow at certain points over the past couple of months but nothing like the normal flow of my regular periods and nothing regular time-wise so I just don’t know if my fertility is ‘back’ or not.

I’m in two minds today about whether to take the morning after pill - hormonal contraception just does not agree with me at all, and even though it seems safe to take while breastfeeding there’s a slight chance it will mess with my milk supply which I’m desperate not to jeopardise. On the other hand, falling pregnant now with a four month old would absolutely not be the plan at all and would definitely put a strain on us as a family.

So AIBU not to get the MAP? What are my chances of falling pregnant (I know no one can actually tell me, but to hear some other people’s maybe similar experiences would be very helpful)

So YANBU - your chances of pregnancy are minuscule, don’t take the risk of the hormones messing you up

YABU - don’t be an idiot and take the bloody pill to stop the risk of pregnancy

(And before anyone jumps on me, I’ve already phoned the GP this morning to make an appointment to get the copper IUD so this won’t happen again - but they can’t fit me in the next five days to use it as emergency contraception so that’s not an option)

What a selfish man (by choosing lust over precaution) And such an irresponsible thing for you to go along with, considering you dont want another kid rn.
Get the map. And if it influences your bm supply there is only 1 person to blame and that is your self op. ..

I’m 5 weeks pregnant with a 6 month old. Get the MAP if you don’t want another baby.

This exact thing happened to me OP when my baby was also 4 months old and I was BF too. No periods.

I Def did not want to be pregnant - baby was baby number 2 with a 16 month age gap between him and his brother, so I decided To get the MAP anyway and then immediately put myself on the mini pill.

That would be my advice if you def do not want to risk it.

Right I’ve been doing all the ringing round and managed to get an emergency appointment to get a copper coil fitted this afternoon! So that’s a great outcome!

Could really do without posts calling my husband selfish and that it’s my own fault if I affect my milk supply - I’ve really battled to exclusively breastfeed and I’m just so paranoid about it being effected by anything, hence why I’ve been so back and forth this morning about taking the risk. Yes we shouldn’t have had unprotected sex, but it won’t be happening again and it wasn’t planned - these things happen and all I’ve been doing is trying to come up with the best solution all round (which I feel I now have!)

You’ll most likely be recommended to take levonorgestrel and then bottle feed for 8 hours or so. So you can pump. Check with the pharmacist!

Sexual health nurse here, great you can get the coil fitted today however still get the MAP as well soon as you can, in case of a failed fit.

I would just get the morning after pill to be safe. I was exactly in the same situation, I remember going to get the pill from pharmacy and having to take my baby with me. Made me cringe haha.

Coil in so hopefully all sorted now. Thanks for all your inputs!
