To get a large plastic toy for 1 year old’s birthday?

I’m trying to buy presents for two different babies who are one soon- they are my friend’s children.

I loved the look of a plastic food truck they could play in - my DH said my friends may not want some hulking fluorescent plastic thing cluttering up their house.

However, I’m finding this hard knowing what to buy. Clothes they have loads of, even the little toys I’m not sure if I’m going to be duplicating, was thinking of a walker with blocks but they may have a walker already, money seems a bit cold.

If not the food truck, what can I buy them!?

A wooden toy that went down well with a Gdd at that age was a brightly coloured Noah’s Ark.
I have also bought more than once for a first birthday a pushalong furry dog on wheels - no plastic! Or hardly any. Good for nearly-walking tots and they usually like pushing it even after they’re walking well.

Don’t get something huge (wood or plastic, doesn’t matter).
Books, duplo have pretty universal appeal and are easy to pass on if they aren’t liked.
Don’t do the wooden animals - they are either fragile, or excellent weapons/wrecking tools (especially the ones from Lanka Kade - they ate great for destroying furniture, tvs etc, yet very limited play value for small
kids is they can’t go in bath, sandpit etc)
I like the backpack idea!
