But my fridge freezer is still bleeping. I think it is suffering from early onset freezer brain death. The alarm keeps going off , though the freezer s fine, and while I can silence it for about 20 minutes by pressing the alarm button it leaps back into action as soon as it can, and it is driving my crazy. I am now forced into thinking I need a new one, Liebherr don't care, John Lewis have washed their hands of me as I am way out of warranty.

What I would like please is recommendations, preferably naming a maker whose products don't spontaneously combust.

I want a white, frost free 60/40 fridge freezer, up to £500 ish, would love a Miele but that isn't going to happen. I would also like one that will last longer than 7 years.

If anyone has access to Which and can let me know their Best Buy that would be wonderful.

Brew and Cake available.

Do you mean the alarm that sounds when you leave the door open? You could possibly deactivate that?

ShaunaTheSheep · 31/08/2020 12:58

Have you checked that the door is shutting completely? Ours did this and it looked shut but actually was slightly unsealed. Had a good clearout of DH’s yellow sticker ‘bargains’ so the drawers closed properly and it was fine.

Alonetime · 31/08/2020 12:59

A freezer makes a sound?

viques · 31/08/2020 13:12

tweets I would do that if I knew where it was located and how to get at it, but I don't think I am qualified to do freezer surgery.

Shauna I have checked the door seals and am making sure I give them a good push when I close them, I've also re arranged things in the freezer drawers to encourage better air circulation.

I even dug out the manual and re read it. Discovered the coldest place in the fridge wasn't where I thought it was but that's another story.

Still bleeping.

alonetime yes, and it hums quietly to itself, cunning little sod.

Mine definitely hums to itself, but I didn't realise you could get smart freezers! (I've just googled. Mind blown).

SmudgeButt · 31/08/2020 13:18

Does it need defrosting? If not could you come over and defrost ours? (can't figure out how to turn it off and after 2+ years it really needs to be defrosted!)

viques · 31/08/2020 13:23

smudgebutt'frostfree, learned that with last fridge freezer, which to its credit survived for a lot longer than this one despite being iced up for most of its life.

AlCalavicci · 31/08/2020 13:27

Have you checked the drain hole at the back , just above the salad draw ? Mine is not a smart fridge ( failed it's 11+ Grin ) but If that gets blocked it sounds like it's got really bad stomach ache

wannabebump · 31/08/2020 13:31

Frost free doesn't mean it never needs defrosted OP. If the freezer isn't kept almost full, that cold air will accumulate somewhere and you'll get a build up somewhere - normally at the drain pipe at the back. A quick google/YouTube search will show you how to get to the pipe for your model.

It could also be the alarm is broken rather than the fridge freezer? Another quick internet search and you'll be able to locate it.

Just remember to turn it off first, and leave it for 10/15 mins for any residual power before poking about it x

MutteringDarkly · 31/08/2020 13:38

We also had a recent battle with Liebherr to repair a defunct fridge freezer that wasn't even a year old. It took several weeks, two engineer visits, new parts I can't recall the name of, and more time on the phone than I care to remember.

However, writing to not just their UK Chief Exec but also their HQ in Switzerland did eventually get things sorted and compensation. Worth a shot?

Namechange2020onceagain · 31/08/2020 13:47

But have you tried hitting it with a hammer? Grin

What's the model number? Also is it the door or the temperature alarm?

Regretsandregrets · 31/08/2020 14:00

@SmudgeButt..am i missing something? To defrost your freezer just switch your electric supply to it and pull the plug out!!!
Unless it runs on static electricity.
