AIBU to want a purple cooker?

We’re going to get a new range cooker...and obviously this is a one off purchase for some years... my present cooker is a 20 year old wreck of a single oven so I’m v excited...

.... I’ve seen this fine beastie, it costs about the same amount as a Rangemaster, but has lots of bells and whistles, and more importantly exactly the hob setup I’d like (dual fuel with gas
hobs and a large hob at each end so I can do a bucket of eg chilli at one end and an equally big bucket of rice on the other. so many hobs only have one large one).
I really like purple... but will it impact hugely on my kitchen eg if we sell the house in a few years, like an avocado bath suite? AIBU to want a purple one?

You don't have to leave behind a cooker when you move house.
What you have to do is make sure that the fixtures and fittings form, which is part of the contract, states correctly whether or not a host of items, including the cooker, will be included in the sale.

Buy what you want for you. If and when you sell up, decide then what to do with the cooker. By then you may not want to take it with you anyway.

@DuesToTheDirt

I'd buy a house because of that purple cooker Grin
Oh yes, I really like that!

I think it’s very nice and not in-your-face at all. I recently discovered a range cooker that comes in any RAL colour so am planning a very bold choice when we get round to doing up our new kitchen!

MitziK · 31/08/2020 14:42

Nah, go for it. If it makes you happy to use it and you will use it a lot, then get the one you love using.

It's not built in, it's not something that would have to be cut up to replace, just have it and love it. Any prospective purchaser would just think 'there's room and connections for a range cooker' - make sure there are connections/power points for induction type ones put in, though, as at some point, I think gas hobs will be a thing of the past, which would be more of a concern to a purchaser than the colour of what you had there when they view it.

I would LOVE a purple cooker.

NearlyGranny · 31/08/2020 14:47

That's lush! It's more burgundy than purple. If you love it, have it. Life is too short for boring black or white cookers. Take it with you when you move - it won't put people off.

Why plan your house around what the next owners might want? You're the one living in it right now so please yourself.

I got a rose taupe Rangemaster when I bought my new house. Love it, no regrets.

Get one :)

saveforthat · 31/08/2020 15:39

It's not purple. It's maroon or burgundy. It's OK. If it was purple it would be amazing

Thisismytimetoshine · 31/08/2020 15:42

It's lovely; I wouldn't call that purple, exactly. They had those ranges in an Emma Bridgwater Spots design a few years ago Grin
That I'd draw the line at.

ChickensMightFly · 31/08/2020 15:49

It's stunning!
I am going to buy a bright orange fridge so I'm all in board with the colour your kitchen the way you want it idea. My friend was appalled when I told her, I laughed. We were mutually amused. I hate her black fridge it so depressingly black and acceptable. Grin

TheRealHousewife · 31/08/2020 15:50

Get what YOU like 😊. Lovely colour.

nosswith · 31/08/2020 16:08

I would not buy it. Purple looked awful when we had that colour kettle, and was very happy to replace it.

Absolutely20 · 31/08/2020 16:09

Purple would indeed put people off, but the one you’ve linked to is nothing like purple!

Saz12 · 31/08/2020 16:26

I’ve a similar coloured Rangemaster one we put in about 14 years ago. Loved the colour for the first few years, now tolerate it.

However you can replace the door slips with a different colour if you wanted to in future, for fairly reasonable cost.

I don’t imagine colour of cooker will be a big issue if you come to sell.

FenellaVelour · 31/08/2020 16:41

I love it.
I have the mini range from this brand (in cream though) and it’s fab.

AryaStarkWolf · 31/08/2020 16:42

I have a cream one as well, have it 12 years now and haven't had a single issue with it
CurlyMango · 31/08/2020 16:56

It’s not too my taste, and I’m sure mine wouldn’t be to yours. So I’d need to factor in a replacement cooker if your left it.

RoseLavenderBlue · 31/08/2020 17:07

I really like it, but then I have a red cooker which I love. Not pillar box red, more of a cherry red. It really suits the kitchen so if you love it, then go for it. I don’t think any prospective buyer is going to find everything in a house 100% to their taste, and I doubt anyone would be put off buying a particular house just because of the colour of the oven.

Hardly a deal breaker when buying a house... 😂
Socksey · 31/08/2020 17:24

I love it.... would go very well with my wedding service 😁

doingitforthefrill · 31/08/2020 17:31

I wouldn’t personally choose it just because I’m not brave enough, but if you love it than why not!

It wouldn’t put me off a house at all, also it is yours to take unless you were stating it as part of the fixtures and fittings?

My friend had a similar oven in cream, and she had it professionally sprayed in a lovely shade of duck egg to go with her new kitchen and it looks fab - so re spraying could always be a option if you did eventually get bored of it!
