Hi there,

Dd (9m) woke up with what seems to be a cold yesterday morning. She's now coughing and running a temp of 38.7 which isn't going down with calpol yet (gave 5ml forty minutes ago). She is feeding well and smiling but I'm obviously worried. I'm a secondary teacher due back at work on Tuesday. Obviously I can't send her to nursery if she's unwell and I can't get her gps to look after her. More to the point I'm also silently freaking out a bit because she's never been sick before. She's had a couple of nursery induction days this week and I'm worried she's already picked something up.

I've looked at the booking for a drive through test but there doesn't seem to be an option to book one for a child, only for myself. Possibly being thick as hell but how do you go about this?!

I booked a test for myself and it then let me add people I lived with so I added my children then.

Thank you, I obviously hadn't clicked through far enough. Much appreciated!

Tests booked. Does anyone know roughly how long it takes to get a result?

I've seen anything from 24 hours to five days.

Yugi · 31/08/2020 05:02

The last two times I got tested at the drive through the results came in 12 hours.

RoseGoldEagle · 31/08/2020 08:34

I got same day results for my 3 year old OP, had test at 8am and results by 8pm, have heard lots of people with similar.

RiverCrossing · 31/08/2020 08:35

I had results in less than 24 hours. Good luck!

SideEyeing · 31/08/2020 09:43

Thanks all. Typically she seems right as rain today bar the cough - I'm really not looking forward to having to swab her! Keeping everything crossed we get the result by 7am tomorrow (test at 11 today) so we can make it in for the first day.

Hi @SideEyeing jumping on here as I have to take my 9mo for a test tomorrow.

Is it absolutely horrific?! Just trying to mentally prepare myself for shoving a swab down her throat and up her nose when actually I just think she has a cold - but nursery have insisted I have her checked as she has developed a cough :(

Burtrix7 · 10/09/2020 21:23

My 11 month old had one on Monday. To be honest it wasnt too bad. I was allowed to just swab his nostrils (both) as apparently this is often enough for babies. He didnt like it and it made him sneeze but he got over it pretty quickly.

MKCH · 10/09/2020 21:34

@Burtrix7 amazing - thanks for the info! Hopefully she's not too snotty then in that case!

SideEyeing · 11/09/2020 00:29

@MKCH Not horrific, no, though she was very snotty so the swab looked quite rank. She didn't like it so it was helpful to have DP hold her hands by her side while I swabbed her but I reckon I could have (jusr about) managed without him. I was convinced the test would come back inconclusive as I doubt I'd "gone in" far enough but it came back neg! Good luck x

(did both nostrils, getting her to open her mouth was a total nonstarter!)
