Hi, Please could you help me decide which electric razor to buy for my 13 year old son? He hit puberty early (Year 6) and has been shaving for a couple of years using a disposable razor. He would now like to try an electric razor. We don't have an electric socket in the bathroom so it will need to be cordless/rechargeable/battery operated. I don't want to spend a fortune as he's prone to dropping/breaking things! Any recommendations gratefully received. Many thanks x

My husband never found electric razors any good, and since switching to an old fashioned safety razor he’s had lovely close shaves! Might be a tad scary for a 13 year old, but I suppose it depends how brave you both are?

Bonus to a safety razor is you never have to buy a new one as well!

dc have the simplest braun shaver boots had. was maybe 20£.
runs on rechargeble batteries.

Philips.

Get one that's waterproof. He needs to know how to open it up and clean the bristles out - make sure he always does it over a clean, flat surface or the sink with the plug in or the bits will inevitably skittle over the floor don't ask me how I know this

They're frequently on half price deals, You don't really need to spend anything more than £45.

If he has acne, it needs washing in very hot water every time to avoid spreading bacteria, but it'll be far gentler on his skin than a razor.

The Remington Style (foil shavers, I think they're called) aren't as good at getting all the different angles the hairs grow from.

This is the one that DP has. It's full price right now, but they go on offer as frequently as electric toothbrushes do.

You get a cheap shaver adaptor socket and you charge it anywhere you like.

Thanks everyone - that's really helpful. I think I've found a suitable one based on your advice. One quick question - a couple of weeks ago he said he wanted to grow a beard for when he starts back at school (I can't believe how quickly it's grown!), it's about a centimetre long albeit looks a bit soft/patchy in places - will the electric razor be sturdy enough to shave all this off or is he best to do it shave it off with a disposable razor? I told him it's fine to grow a beard if that's what he wants however to be prepared if other children/young people make comments when he goes back to school (he's quite hairy generally). So now he's asked again for an electric shaver I'm wondering if he's having second thoughts. He is prone to acne so I guess he has to be careful of this too - thanks for the tip re: washing/bacteria - I'll pass this onto him. Many thanks everyone x

1 cm should be doable.
I think with an electric shaver the chance of skin damage around acne areas is smaller than with a blade.

the one dc has has got a '3day beard' attachment.

Well, DP's one works on six week long leg hair and the flip out sideburn/edge trimmer works on underarm hair when he's not home. It just needs cleaning out a lot.
