To ask how often you cut your long hair

My hair is long and I don't do much to it. I get it trimmed probably 3-4x a year and it looks fine, am I meant to be trimming it every 6-8weeks like people recommend?

Twice a year . Hairdresser always says it’s in pretty good condition .

EmilyRH · 29/08/2020 12:06

Every three months or so. I get my balayage redone every six months, with one trim in between cut and colour appointments.

My hair is down to the band of my bra but I use a lot of heat on it so I can't leave my split ends much longer than three months.

Mine is long. I went to a hairdresser for the first time when I was 19 and I’ve been 4 or 5 times in the twenty years since then.

FilledSoda · 30/08/2020 19:52

Once every couple of years , I really hate going .

MaskingForIt · 30/08/2020 19:59

My husband cuts mine once or twice a year, usually when I start being annoyed by it tickling by bum when I go to the loo! He uses the dog grooming scissors, because I am not forking out for hairdressing scissors!

I think the 6-8 weeks thing is a scam to get people to go to a hair dresser and spend £60 a time. It plays on female insecurities about having to look a certain way to be attractive and conform.

My DD has waist length hair. Shes had it cut 3 times in her life! (14 years)

Namechangr9000 · 30/08/2020 20:01

Mine is elbow length, I have it cut twice a year.

CMOTDibbler · 30/08/2020 20:04

I had mine cut last September. I cut the fringe and front myself.
I don't dye it, only blow dry the fringe and front normally, and never use straighteners

BeeyatchPlease · 30/08/2020 20:06

Once, maybe twice a year.

I have only found one person I trust (after trying numerous other hairdressers) to properly cut my hair and he charges a small fortune so I limit my visits.

My hair is in outstanding condition considering.

Pesimistic · 30/08/2020 21:36

I only had mine cure 2 weeks ago, after about 6 years

helpfulperson · 30/08/2020 21:43

Every 2 or 3 years. Its about a foot below my shoulders.

Dugsbollox · 30/08/2020 21:44

About once a year. I'm growing it now, and mainly tying it up because it's at such an awkward stage. I detest going to the hairdressers, between the small talk and the mirrors everywhere, I just want to get in and out again.

year5teacher · 30/08/2020 21:47

I cut it myself 1/2 times a year.
The only hairdresser I trust goes to my mum’s friend’s house and we all get it cut in one evening and it takes such a long time that I just do it myself.
(Not a slight on hairdressers, I’m just very precious!!) My hair is tailbone length and healthy. I trim about an inch off if the ends start to look dry or are hard to brush but that hasn’t happened since about January.

PurpleFlower1983 · 30/08/2020 21:53

3 times a year.

delilahbucket · 30/08/2020 21:58

Every 8-10 weeks along with a highlight top up. No cut for five months during lockdown left it all straggly and awful. It gets really thin at the end. I normally just have half a centimetre cut off but it needed three centimetres a few weeks ago.

StrawberrySquash · 30/08/2020 22:08

Once or twice a year. If I go to the hairdresser I like to take a lot off so I enjoy the change. Or I used to get my friend to trim it. In lockdown I was due a cut so just did it myself and am considering doing it again now it's grown a bit.
