Orthodontist appt requirements

Hi all,
DD11 has an orthodontist appt in a weeks time, when the surgery made the appt Over the phone they specified that she would have to go into the surgery on her own, I wouldn’t be allowed in with her. I’m a bit Hmm about this. She’s only 11, although she’s pretty mature for her age. It’s a medical appt though and I’d like to be there to make sure she’s ok.

Am I being unreasonable asking to go in with her? I don’t want to be ‘that’ parent and she does need the appt... but is just seems a bit odd having an 11 year old going into a medical appt on their own.

YANBU. In my opinion age 11 is far too young to go to appointments on their own, especially in an initial appointment when decisions need to be made. DD's orthodontist have made it that age 13 upwards should attend alone, which I think is far more sensible. Even then I would def want to be there if it wasn't a routine appointment eg: tightening.

She is 16 and went in for a retainer check on her own today. She was nervous to go on her own even though she is very comfortable there and knows it well so who knows how a little 11yo would feel!
