Ok, so I've treated "lockdown" as if it were a second Christmas. The minute Boris announced the schools were closing I ordered all of the wine and all of the cheese. We've had beers and BBQs and lots of fun but it has to stop Blush

I've put on a couple of stone, I drink too much, basically, I need a reset/recharge.

So, AIBU to ask you for one or two things that will really make a difference to my wellbeing? I'm out for a drink this weekend (pre-planned but now not so keen ) and have a food delivery booked on Monday.

Thoughts so far:

  • booze free September
  • detox diet? Or go veggie/Pesci for September?
  • mindfulness (I've got the CALM app but not really good at using it)
  • pamper treatments at home - recommendations needed!

What am I missing? What should my post lockdown daily timetable look like? Any tips gratefully received. It'll be the first time except during pregnancy that I've done this! Grin

Power walk for an hour five days a week. Brilliant for your mental health, hormones and weight loss

Ploughingthrough · 28/08/2020 02:52

I broadly follow a 16:8 pattern and I don't eat junk food. I might treat myself to something once a month or so if it is a birthday or something, but I live my life without it. I drink alcohol just once a week, 1-2 glasses of wine. I don't exercise excessively but I swim twice a week and I don't have a car so I walk a lot.
I spend money on skin care and I have my nails done regularly.

I’m not a huge fruit fan either but the easiest way for me to eat it is in a smoothie. Whack it in a blender with some water / coconut water / milk of any sort / juice and it’s an easy way to get a fruit fix. And agree with the ‘detoxing is nonsense’ comment. That’s what your liver is for (although sounds like yours has been working pretty hard recently haha)

Bluesheep8 · 28/08/2020 07:09

I tried a 3 day water challenge where you drink 3 litres of water for 3 days.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but did you not eat? Anything? For 3 days?
I drink at least 3l per day but I do eat

pigsDOfly · 28/08/2020 10:03

3 litres of water a day? Bloody hell.

I'd be spending those three days (and the nights) on the loo.

ToLiveInPeace · 28/08/2020 10:08

Another vote for walking. I used to hate dragging my lazy arse anywhere and now I feel fitter and stronger and actually look forward to it.

Now, if I could just get a handle on the stress...

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 28/08/2020 10:08

I’ve lost 21lbs since the start of June. Calorie controlled and low carb (so green vegetables and fruit allowed. No refined carbs at all).

Have continued to drink booze - gin, vodka, the odd glass of wine, whiskey.

Exercise every day. Lots of water. Three meals and zero snacks.

vjg13 · 28/08/2020 10:08

Increasing exercise and drastically reducing alcohol intake will help with sleep. Also try melatonin gummies you can buy in Uk but come from USA. They REALLY help.Wink

Lamentations · 28/08/2020 10:14

Do a Whole 30. The weight will drop off and you'll feel amazing. And you can still drink coffee.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 28/08/2020 10:15

Walking makes no difference to my weight so I'm not going to tell you to walk Wink
Instead, try yoga. Lots of good videos online.
Drink water.
Get enough sleep - that sounds tricky because of your sleep issues but try visualisation techniques.

jolokoy · 28/08/2020 10:18

There are small tweaks you can make to things you like doing that will reduce the toll they take:

  1. Drink low carb - gin and sugar free tonic, rum, etc are all 0/low carb. Cocktails, beer and wine are what get you.
  2. Drink black coffee with no sugar.
  3. Drink water - sparkling water can help! Don't drink fruit juice or squash or milk or pop - just water.
  4. Eat less bread, eat thinner bread, eat Vogel type bread.
  5. Eat dark chocolate not milk chocolate.
  6. Take a vitamin d supplement.
  7. Go for a walk every day, even just around the block.
LajesticVantrashell · 28/08/2020 10:20

Walking has made no difference to my weight but I love it. At least 10,000 steps a day listening to podcasts or audiobooks. I feel twitchy if I miss a day and find I sleep so much better.

yahoosername · 28/08/2020 10:27

@jolokoy I do like sparkling water - I'll
Put some on the food order now.

Looks like I'm going to have to do some walking! If not for the exercise, for the mind. That part can start today!

"And agree with the ‘detoxing is nonsense’ comment. That’s what your liver is for (although sounds like yours has been working pretty hard recently haha)"

Grin fuckin overtime mate, seriously

@LajesticVantrashell yy I love walking too. It was just OP said she hated it so that's why I was suggesting alternatives that she might enjoy and that might help her lose weight Smile

MsRinky · 30/08/2020 13:20

I'm doing a Whole30 September, it's well overdue. It is pretty hardcore, but makes you feel so amazing. I have had a rather over-indulgent lockdown as well.
