As a contrast to that other thread.

For England, I’d say British humour (Monty Python, Red Dwarf, The Goon Show, Black Books etc.), football (not unique to us but it is big here), local markets, people’s love of gardening and growing their own fruit and veg, Anglo-Indian food, the kindness towards animals, a lot of indie/rock musicians, composers like Elgar and Britten, and we had some great children’s TV in the 80s.

That’s all I can think of right now.

Where I live (London) I love the nationality mix. I can get Ethiopian food, Egyptian food, Chinese dim sum, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and fish and chips all within two streets of my house.

Where I'm born (Yorkshire) I love our enjoyment of nature - we even love the moors when they're bleak in winter. The harsh beauty.

England - I love how rooted we are to history (even though lots of it is horrible and that's something we need to acknowledge and feel sorrow for) we know so much about our past and about how we have come to be.

Oh yes, and love of the NHS

England - the history, country houses, the countryside, the national Trust, English pubs are the best, Sunday lunch, scones with clotted cream and jam, quaint and beautiful villages snd towns.

Scotland - stunning and dramatic scenery, beautiful islands, interesting history, great theatre, arts and entertainment.

YES! The pubs! Especially metal pubs. And cheese. We do do some nice cheese.

Yes, the cheese.
Which reminds me - food festivals. All cancelled this year, but I always make a beeline for the cheese stalls.

And the gin. How could I forget gin Grin

Yes to animal welfare. Cruelty to animals still happens, but it’s far less socially acceptable in the UK than in many other countries.

Yes also to the NHS, the lack of guns and our sense of humour.

I also love British cakes and really missed them when I lived abroad. You can keep your sweet pastries - nothing beats an iced, layered sponge cake, especially if it’s chocolate, coffee or lemon drizzle. Although I admit that most supermarket cakes are far too sweet.
