To feel so shit for achieving nothing with my day?

Have a toddler and baby. Toddler has been at nursery this morning and I had a plan to take them out this afternoon which he would enjoy. The rain cancelled our plans. Since we got back from nursery, we've had the TV on most of the afternoon. I've barely been able to get baby to nap, as they've been waking up almost straight away.
All I've done with toddler is read a few books, play a game which they lost interest in after 10 mins and watch TV while trying to get baby to sleep/almost constant breastfeeding.
Literally all I've achieved with my day is keeping the children alive. I've still not finished unpacking from our holiday a few days ago. Toddler is also tired so wont even be able to salvage the evening as he will be having tea, bath and bed.
I've got loads to do - the organisations I volunteer for are starting to open up again and need my input. Its nothing taxing but it feels like they want the moon on a stick right now.
Tea is beige and from the freezer which doesn't help as I normally cook from scratch.
AIBU to feel so shit?

You’re allowed a day off now and then!

Um, this is normal with a toddler and a baby, isn’t it?

MummaGiles · 27/08/2020 17:08

Don’t be hard on yourself. We all have days like that.

SnuggyBuggy · 27/08/2020 17:10

Remember tomorrow is another day

At least you've got young children as an excuse! Mine are 11 and 16 and all I've done all day is one load of washing and take in the online shop delivery. Just can't be bothered....Grin

gingganggooleywotsit · 27/08/2020 17:13

Totally normal but it does feel frustrating!

toothfairy73 · 27/08/2020 17:13

Give yourself a break. We all need days to take it easy. Your children are warm, safe and fed. You can catch up with other things another day

Cheeseybites · 27/08/2020 17:13

Mine are a bit older and I still sometimes feel that all ive done is made sure they stayed alive that say.
When they were toddler's and babies that was my day to day. Nothing got done except feeding napping and changing nappies.

BetsyBoo100 · 27/08/2020 17:15

I have a 1 & a 3 year old and I can assure you this is my type of day every day. Do not worry! It's bloody hard work

MereDintofPandiculation · 27/08/2020 17:17

I have adult DCs and sometimes I achieve nothing! I am at 3 jobs a day. taking toddler to nursery and picking him up again would count as two.

TheHappyHerbivore · 27/08/2020 17:18

It’s just one day of many OP - give yourself a break! You kept your children alive and cared for, that’s all you really need to do.

mbosnz · 27/08/2020 17:22

Sounds like you all needed a duvet day - glad you listened to your mind and body and took it!

Sacredspace · 27/08/2020 17:22

I remember how hard it was when my children were that age. I’ve held down very responsible jobs, but a baby and a toddler nearly took me down! It was the hardest time of my life. So I’m completely in awe of you!
Especially as you are also doing voluntary work on top!

If this isn't an achievement, then I need to downgrade the last decade of my life.
EvilHerbivore · 27/08/2020 17:26

I've also done nothing all day. My kids are 10 and 7. I don't feel bad 😁

JudgeRindersMinder · 27/08/2020 17:26

I heard the expression “all fed none dead” on here and I wish I’d known it when mine were little.
An afternoon with mum sounds perfect for a toddler and baby

devildeepbluesea · 27/08/2020 17:30

I'm not sure if this is some sort of stealth boast or you really are always this hard on yourself!

DD is 7. So far today we got to Tesco, did shopping, got stranded in Tesco car park and had to wait for a locksmith to bring me a new key fob (old one managed to immobilise the bloody thing), came home, watched Cool Runnings. She's now upstairs watching shit TV on the iPad while I watch pointless with a beer. Rain lowers my expectations and raises my alcohol consumption.

Wecandothis99 · 27/08/2020 17:31

I havnt even got any of us dressed!

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 27/08/2020 17:50

@devildeepbluesea stealth boast about what?

Thanks everyone. I know I'm unnecessarily hard on myself.

I’ve done a lot less op.
I haven’t even cooked and dd is 11 😂

SantaClaritaDiet · 27/08/2020 17:54

It's not even 6pm. You have at least one hour to finish your unpacking and make yourself feel better!

You can then do 45mn to 1 hour of work once the kids are asleep.

Snorkelface · 27/08/2020 17:55

I've paid a couple of bills and eaten crisps. That is all. I blame the weather.

devildeepbluesea · 27/08/2020 17:56

@Namechangeymcnamechange11 I was.making the point that you're too hard on yourself. What you have achieved today is way more than an awful lot of us. Bad weather is the curse of the holidays, makes you wonder why we still have school hols in August 🙄

SierraOscar · 27/08/2020 18:00

OP you have some more than me today. I have taken toddler DD to nursery. Came home and went to sleep.

The last few months have been intense! I start uni next week and thought I deserved some me time whilst I had chance. You should not feel guilty, you don't have to be super mum all the time, your children have had what they have needed from you today.
