Cadbury’s in a Chilli?

Making chilli, recipe calls for cocoa powder, but I’ve only got Cadbury’s drinking choc.

Tempted to bung a spoon in and hope for the best, but also worried it may be revolting and turn into a bizarre sweet dessert chilli.

Would I be completely batshit to give it a go? Maybe it will turn into some Heston Blumenthal - esque taste sensation?!

There's some chocolate/cocoa snobs on here.
Chocolate/cocoa is great in chillis.
Cocoa obviously the best, but can't see why drinking chocolate wouldn't work, worth a try!

I googled Panda peanut butter and it is American style with 11g of sugar per 100g, Tesco own brand smooth peanut butter only has 0.9g of sugar per 100g.

There's some chocolate/cocoa snobs on here. Hardly a snob, I buy the £1 Tesco 85% cocoa chocolate, unless I'm at Aldi or Lidl.

Well, I think it might work. Tomato based dishes often call for sugar to be added, so just put in a teaspoon and hold of on any sugar if suggested.

Dark chocolate would be perfect.
They often use it in beef or bean dishes. It adds a lovely richness to it, similar to adding red wine or port.

I always put hot chocolate in a chilli, but it's the Hotel Chocolat 70% coca one with chilli in. Don't get all grumpy about "chocolate snobs" though: it was a gift and none of us are keen on it as a drink, so we're gradually using it up this way.

Coca? Cocoa! Coca could make a very interesting meal....

Should we just add a bit of nesquik then ? Grin

I put into a chilli whatever leftover chocolate we have that noone in our house is going to eat. Post-halloween novelty chocolate and post-Christmas selection box rejects have both featured. Does the job! Grin

Reporting back - so I added a teaspoon of coffee. it enhanced the flavour subtlety. Would definitely add that again.

Then I thought....ach what’s the harm, maybe will try a wee teaspoon of Cadbury’s too, what could possibly go wrong?

Again it perhaps added a bit of richness, but also dampened down some of be the chilli heat. Didn’t make it horrible though, or sweet or really change it that might, and I might do it again as it was the nicest chilli I’ve made in a while imho, but I’ll buy dark choc or cocoa powder for next time.
