Kids with whistles...help

Midsommar · 27/08/2020 11:48

I have posted about this before but deleted it as it was maybe too outing. There are a bunch of kids out on my street playing but one of them has been given a whistle - I am WFH and it is disturbing me a lot. I've had to crank my TV volume up which I didn't want to do. My neighbours have also commented on how annoying it is. I'm at my wits end and it is stressing me out - what would you recommend I do? I'm worried about approaching the parents as I don't want to cause any trouble. I don't have kids myself so I'm not sure how to handle this situation.
If someone could give me some advice I'd be grateful.
Thanks.

Thanks for all of you who have posted helpful comments and not just used my post to come at me with pitchforks! Whatever happened to "be kind" eh...

Have taken advice on board x

@IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 why would I be thankful kids are getting out and about...I don't have children so (apart from the shitty horrible whistling) I don't care what they do.

Noise-cancelling headphones?

GreyishDays · 27/08/2020 13:24

I don’t think there’s any point in talking to the parents. Only someone pretty selfish would let them be doing it in the first place.

WorraLiberty · 27/08/2020 13:26

@DancingCatGif

A kid on my street has one of those bike horn things.

I describe in vivid detail to my husband how I'm going to destroy it. Today I decided I would take the entire bike and throw it into a fucking tree.

OMG a kid on my street had one of those last year. After months and months of continual honking and their parents ignoring all complaints, they finally moved out.

Say hello to them for me 😅

minnieok · 27/08/2020 13:36

Just wear headphones, school went back yesterday in some areas and all will be back in the next 10 days

Midsommar · 27/08/2020 13:52

@WorraLiberty I wouldn't be surprised if the kids round here brandished bike horns next!

My dad once gave our two boys a whistle each when they were small ( he was given them by SAGA the insurance firm and they were the whistles to use to ward of an attacker so massively loud). He of course went back back home sharpish... We made the whistles disappear sharpish the day after. I would ask the parents if they could not do the same?

BashfulClam · 27/08/2020 14:23

Yes one of the little ‘darlings’ round here has one. Between them and the screamer I was driven demented. Luckily Scottish schools are back so off they fuck every day Grin. Playing and screeching and shouting is fine, screaming for no reason and fucking whistles are not! I can’t use noise cancelling earphones as all headphones and earphones cause me migraines as they press on a nerve.

WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername · 27/08/2020 14:24

So antisocial to give a child a whistle.
Ds got one in a party bag once, I 'lost' it that evening

BashfulClam · 27/08/2020 14:25

@IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 ah so you are one of those parents who let your little one make anti social noise and jus say ‘aw bless!’ It’s not on even if your neighbours are not wfh, it could be distressing to an elderly person or disruptive to a baby or night shift worker trying to get done kip. Ever heard of be kind!

Midsommar · 27/08/2020 14:26

@BashfulClam urrrgh the screaming too! The really high pitched screaming is the worst, luckily the "angels" round here don't seem to do that, they just whistle all fucking day long instead 😂 can't wait for the day they get back to school!

I think we can tell who the parents are that let their kids irritate the life out of everyone around them.

BashfulClam · 27/08/2020 14:27

@Midsommar get the flags out...2 had whistles here they was lots of fun Grin

Yep. Agree. Not even just us WFH lot - all those people who work shifts or have babies that are trying to nap. Not fair on them either is it.

@WhyIsItSoHardToPickAUsername yes, definitely. The ones who don't seem to see the problem with letting their children loose with whistles. And recorders apparently...
It's like the people who don't see the problem with letting their dogs bark constantly- they're the ones doing it. Very annoying indeed.

It's annoying but close your windows put your headphones on or work in a different room. Kids go back to school next week so no point creating drama. You be accused of being "that" fun sponge because you don't have kids yourself. This whole situation is grating on us all now

I tried a different room with windows closed but it’s bloody loud and I can’t wear headphones or earphones for long periods. Kinda hoped they’d trip and swallow the bastard thing!
Midsommar · 27/08/2020 16:07

@ivfdreaming I'd definitely be accused of being a fun sponge but if I hear that whistle again I'll be accused of being something much worse than that!!

In all seriousness though yes the situation is pissing us all off. Wish we could fast forward through this year!

@BashfulClam yes I was kinda hoping the same thing 😂

If I'd marched around my road with a whistle as a child i can guarantee one of my parents would have been out to whisk it out of my hand and deliver a lecture about people needing peace and quiet and not wanting to hear it.

ThickFast · 27/08/2020 17:52

I really don’t get whistles. Why on earth would you ever buy your kid one. There is no point to them at all.

MinaMurray · 27/08/2020 18:06

Before I had DC, and when DC1 was a tiny baby, I used to look at those little instrument sets in toy shops and think, oh, aren’t they cute, just imagine children making beautiful music with those.
I suppose some people might think the same thing about whistles if they’ve never seen a child let loose with one.

But having experienced the way my DC use whistles, I’ve concluded that the primary reason to buy a child a whistle is because you don’t like their parents.
