I eat a mostly plant based diet in that I don’t eat meat, fish or dairy but I do eat eggs. Today I calculated that I have eaten 38g of protein through scrambled eggs, lentil dhal, nuts & chia seeds and also soya yoghurt.

How much should I be eating?

Aibu to think i am probably not getting enough but not sure how to up it on a mostly plant diet- I try to eat a varied diet as much as I can

1g to 1.5g per kg of ideal body weight is a good rule of thumb and well used in the keto community. 35g is a tiny amount if you’re not 35kg

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/08/2020 18:41

Absolutely pmsl at the way people will dress up a question to justify putting it in AIBU.

HyaluronicHippo · 26/08/2020 18:41

Protein shakes/water?

Glitteryone · 26/08/2020 18:42

YABU to ask AIBU if you’re eating enough protein.

Use a macro calculator

Midlifelights · 26/08/2020 18:44

Why not use AIBU? It gets more traffic and I get a quicker answer to be honest

Why not scrap every other topic in Mumsnet to be honest? A question I have asked HQ many times over the years!

Midlifelights · 26/08/2020 18:52

Well if it’s that much of an issue posting in the ‘wrong’ thread then quite! I get better replies in here i find!

This is an interesting article about protein which might allay any worry you have - depending on you POV.

Midlifelights · 26/08/2020 18:55

Also, is it unreasonable to ask the question in here which was my post? No, it’s not really unreasonable to ask a question...

OP posts:
Curlysusie · 26/08/2020 18:57

Approx 1g/kg. Upper limit of 1.5g/kg

Midlifelights · 26/08/2020 18:57

@BewareTheBeardedDragon thanks that is a super useful link xx

American RDA is 0.8 g/kg of body.

So a 60 kg person would need 48 g/day (not the 60-90 g/day that other posters are quoting).

lljkk · 26/08/2020 19:08

I think this is saying that British RDA is 0.6 g/kg, so a 60 kg person would need 36 g/day.

Aisforharlot · 26/08/2020 19:18

I do 1g per lb of lean body mass. but I'm a strength trainer.
More is generally better, especially as you age.

Aisforharlot · 26/08/2020 19:20

Look for a plant based protein powder you like.
